Picked up a beat bike on marketplace. It was up for 250$ CAD. I got the seller down to 200. Bike's been okay, theres a missing cable for the front derailleur, a break pad is broken, the rear wheel is pretty beat. I got like 3 blowouts in my first 5 rides. Mostly my fault.
Anyways, the point of the purchase was to get me back on a bike and commute to work with it. I think it's already paid itself off in terms of cheap transport and fun.
I did a bit of research on the bike and everything points to it being a 1973 Schauff Grandsport. A limited edition for the 72' Olympic games in Munich. I like the bike, it seems a little special so I want to keep it for now. Maybe restore it some day. Definitely get it back in shape during the winter and hand it down to someone or sell it. The groupset is mismatched but the brakes are original and look nice IMO. The drop bar is nothing special but it looks nice. (Until I messed it up with sandpaper after taking off the nasty white tape. Wonder if anyone can help with that btw)
Caveat. It's a bit uncomfortable so I want to slap a riser bar and a nice Single speed with coaster break wheel on it for a smoother commute. The wheel, I struck a bargain, 15 bucks and it's pristine! Riser bars are cheap and I like the look and riding position. I'll be able to remove the rear break, won't have to fuss with gears (not a fan of the no-index, frame mounted, oldschool levers. I know, wrong sub to state that but eh).
Questions:
-Help me fix the deeeeeep scratches on these otherwise cleeeeaaan chromed drop bars.
-More info on the bike? (Havent taken much good pictures but I can get some nice ones tomorrow.)
-Opinions on the bike, good deal, what would you do with it?
