things that beginner cyclists need to know part one number one is that underwear does not belong under bib shorts so before you even try it take my word and leave them at home number two is that your tires actually have a directional tread on them look closely at the wheel and you will see there’s often an arrow to which way the tire should be rolling this is particularly important in the wet because it disperses the water so please just make sure it’s right to start number three and one I see time and time again is people wearing their helmet too far back on their head to make sure your helmet fits properly put it on loosely make sure there’s two fingers above your eyebrows and then tighten it up accordingly

  1. Please include checking wind speed and direction before heading out, an easy 10 mile hack in one direction can turn into a monster on the way back

  2. Ladies PLEASE WEAR UNDERWEAR!… you do not have external bits like the boys. Bib fabric combined with the bacteria/sweat you produce increases the chances of an infection!!!

  3. Directional arrow on a tyre is not such a big deal, manufacturers make sure they still work well even in reverse mounting and in some cases you can generate some useful effects by running counter to the rotation arrow. Have the appropriate tyre pressure in them is much more important. Bicycle tyres do not aquaplane ever, is physically impossible.

  4. The conti gp5000 only has directional arrows, because they were asked for the correct direction. It actually doesn't matter performancewise. At all.

  5. I tried no underwear and it's just uncomfortable and weird, plus all my shorts fall down without underwear for some reason. Full bibs are even more uncomfortable on the shoulders for a guy that's even slightly muscular. I'll keep wearing underwear under my cycling shorts.

  6. Ive never worn a helmet while biking. But I've also always had a crappy old super heavy bike. I just got the canyon grail, Im thinking on buying a helmet.

  7. Tip 1: Cycle defensively – assume other road users are out to kill you and you may survive.

I went whizzing down a hill doing over 30mph and came to a blind bend. Imagine my surprise when I had a car on my side of the road blocking my path cos he had decided to overtake a bike coming the other way when he couldn't see what was around the corner – me.

I just closed my eyes and prayed – he moved over just enough to miss me.

That day I learned a valuable lesson. You may be the most diligent, kind, thoughtful cyclist in the world. That you can control – the actions of others – not so much.

  8. Things cyclists also need to know: bike tire tread disperses ZERO ounces of water. The "tread" is a design to make them not look like balloons.

  9. Trust me we had no underwear on our ride across america1965. Daily riding required a daily does of lubricate because the riding shorts in those days was chamie a type of soft leather. No jel shorts then. If we got chafed we were done riding for days. We used petrolium jelly. This ride was not a bike tour ride. We did not get chafed. A few have said this was a draconian ride in general. I'm hitting 82 shortly as i looked back i was 20 and dumb. Dam near did not make.!!😢😢😊 but young and dumb made it . 😊

  10. Most importantly, put the phone in a holder and focus on the ride.
Can we agree to just enjoy the ride without the need to “capture it” for SM?

  11. Sometime those spandex are so stretch out i can see the person butt crack / asshole while driving from behind…..so should I call the police for indecent exposure?
