A day out on the bikes, exploring Marsden Moor, extreme temperatures, an unintended hike a bike & a little bit of rock climbing, well, I say rock climbing, it was more of a jump across a gap in between 2 large rocks, then a climb back down 😀. Accompanying me on this ride was Christian @ElectricMountainBiker & Mark @cheshireemtb . As this place is fairly local to Christian, he had an idea of a loop he wanted to try which included an alternative final descent than the usual packhorse trail that we’ve previously done, it didn’t go quite to plan, but what we ended up doing was interesting to say the least 🤣 it was a fantastic explore & ride, we had a great laugh and we definitely need to go back and find the trail that Christian so desperately wanted to try 😀👍🏻
Hope you enjoy the video.

somewhere different. This week we’re in West Yorkshire and this is a loop around Marsden and up here that is the packor trail which we normally descend. With me this week is Christian. Hello. And Mark. Hello. And yeah, we normally come down the Packor trail, but this time we’re going up. Uh, where is it? We’re heading again. So, we’re going to head up Packor Trail to Standage. Standage. And then I think we’re going to go down through Red Brook Engine Room through the old quarry site. Looks like there’s a good descent that I saw on a dog walk the other night. Why don’t I get you guys down it? Yeah. So, we’re doing a bit of exploring. Just basically just a mess about on the bikes, some miles in. We’ve got the cameras, some photos, which we’ll probably share in the videos here and there, some coffee, some cake, and redot. Absolutely scorching today. Three different bikes today. Yeah. Odd tail, full source, an ebike. Yeah, Christian’s challenge Mark to make it up here without any dabs. I can tell you now I won’t be getting up it. There he goes. Only on an ebike. Unless you’re super fit. Yeah, unless you’re Tony. And that’s hard work just pushing your bike up. Well done, mate. Well done, Mo. Well done you on that. Well done. This is a nice little tricky section to come down on your bike. Seems weird going the other way. It is, isn’t it? Yeah. This is quite easily the hottest ride I’ve ever had to endure. Well, this kind of ride anyway. Such a fast descent going the other way as I climb. It’s absolutely exhausting in this heat. I’m dripping. This is one of my favorite sections going the other way as well where you can just fly down here. Mark is going to go and have a go at this section. We’ve been telling him what a great descent this is going the other way. Seeon as he’s on the ebike, he may as well go and do this middle section. He’ll catch us up in a minute. The way we’ve done it today is Christian decided to get all the climbing out of the way at the start of the ride and then second half the ride is all descending. Another great section of the trail coming the other way alongside this wall. You get so much speed down here. I wish I could go up just as fast. Here comes Mark. He’s got to resist the temptation of coming down that cuz it is a lovely top section. Fair play. That was a bit. We were just saying if he doesn’t come back down there now, he’s an idiot. Mark absolutely loving this trail. He’s so glad he’s on the ebike. is going up to the top now and he’s going to film the entire first and second section and come back to us cuz we’re probably going to have a rest anyway. You came into that corner a bit. Yeah. Here we go. Be sure to head over to Mark’s channel to see his footage of this climb in reverse as a descent. Whatever. Get on to our channel. But obviously visit Christian. Yeah, exactly. EM electric mountain biker. No more electric mountain biker. But he’s still electric mountain biker. What should I call the channel? There’s a question for you. Eccentric mountain biker. Any suggestions for mountain biker? Christian’s new channel name. I know. Electric mountain bikers no more. You sold the ebike. Get him one next year though. Suggestions in the comments. Yeah. Awesome. got an idea for a new channel name for Christian. Bearing in mind he is getting another ebike sometime next year. Okay. Tada. Look forward to the suggestions. You can’t go anywhere without the Germans getting the towels down before you get there. Fantastic views up here. There’s a lovely breeze. Woo. Nice. And look at them views. The rock dodgy. Yeah. Just took a few pictures of Christian on top of you. He doesn’t get down now. Right. Two turn. How grippy is that? Very. So if I jump across there, I’ll be all right, mate. I just did it. Trust me, you’ll be fine. It’s very, very grippy. Yeah. hell. That looks dodgy. Yeah, he’s right. Grippy as hell, isn’t it? Yeahoo. I don’t know where that went. Now I’ve got to try to get down from here. This is Oh my god, mate. I’m not Keep coming. There. Yeah. Sound. Oh, that’s easy. Yeah. Woo. Why not? You got it. Yeah. After three. One, two, three. And down we go. Uh this is the better option in terms of the safest I think. Whoa. I took a bad line there. I had no choice but bloody launch off that then. So following Christian. Christian’s ne never rode this trail. He’s found it, or should I say, he’s seen it and he wants to try it. So, it was only right to let Christian go first and lead the way. Fairly flat start. Heat. Heat. Oh, whoa, lovely. Nice. Okay. So, we’re not 100% certain of where this trail starts. We can’t see anything. So much grass. Oh. Oh yeah. Bloody hell. Something tells me this is a bit mental. I’m sure this is ridable without seeing what’s underneath this grass. You know what it is? That’s the rock. Yeah, you just it’s in a way the risk cuz it’s it’s all rock underneath this grass. Not quite what we expected. Well, this is a an unexpected hiker bike. So, this part of the route has failed a little bit, but that just gives us another reason to come and have another look another time. We possibly found an alternative, but we’ll see. This isn’t bad, actually. I’m sure I keep feeling spots of rain. Yep, it’s actually raining. That’s exactly what I was saying. Yeah, to be honest with you, I’m not bothered about the rain. It’s cooling me down. It’s quite refreshing that. Do you want to go first, Christian? I don’t mind. Yeah, if you want. I ain’t bothered. Just go for it. Sure. Yeah, it. Okay. Not sure what to expect down here at all. Little baby, take me time a little bit. It’s a bit trickier than I thought it was going to be. Christ almighty. What a section. My god. And I think that’s pretty much it. Wow. That was ace. That just went That was nuts. To 100. That was ace. That was quite something. I just let go down it. I was like, “Oh, oh Oh shit.” Yeah. Yeah. So, we’ll see what else there is. There’s this or the alternative was the main road. Not sure if Yeah, this is all right, I think. Cool. Yeah, definitely beats main roads, doesn’t it? I would say so. Unfortunately though, we’re on a main road now. Left. That was ace. Well, not as easy as a bit before, though. Great little bit there. Uh, again, I enjoyed that. It wasn’t as exciting as the one before, but in the end turned out quite well. There’s nothing worse. And you go on a ride and you’re exploring and when it doesn’t work out. You just don’t find a suitable ending to your ride. But that was suitable. That was suitable. But what’s even more suitable than that is a pint. And there it is. The perfect finish. The perfect finish.

  1. Nice seeing what some of the climbing looked like. Looked really brutal! That last part looked really hard to do, not being able to see what is under you with the grass. Cool seeing that town, at the end. I like seeing the buildings in your country. Some of those homes/buildings look really old, but cool looking.

  2. Boys, boys. It's not hard work pushing your bikes up. It's hard work pushing your bellies up! They definitely weight more than your bikes!
I say this with much love from another middle-aged mountain biker with more girth than I would like!
