We biked from London to Brighton. And you might be thinking, Kate, what the [ __ ] And you’re so right for that. For those who don’t know, that’s the bike path that we went on. Anyways, this was an expert route and we thought, let’s [ __ ] do it. Even though we’ve never seen 3,500 ft of elevation in our lives. Started off with some oatmeal and coffee, said goodbye to our kittens for the day cuz we were going to be out for a very long time. And then we hit the road. Okay, I want to be clear. We are not the first people that have ever biked from London to Brighton. This is a very common cycling route in the UK, but this was very challenging for our ability level. We just figured, [ __ ] it, we ball. So, we biked out of central London. We both got padded bike shorts recently, which has been a game changer. One time we biked 40 miles, which has been our longest bike ride without padded bike shorts. Wouldn’t recommend that on my worst enemy. Henry took the lead with the nav. Bless his soul, because I just kind of [ __ ] off in the back. In classic London fashion, it rained for about 5 minutes. Now, some of you might be like, Kate, what the [ __ ] do you pack for a 60-mi bike ride? Let me tell you, I’ve run three marathons, so I know a little bit about fueling, and it translates over to cycling. So, you want to eat carbs along the bike ride. We packed three Snickers each and one Rice Krispie and then we stopped for a burger like 50 mi in. Obviously had some water refills along the way and electrolyte. This was the first climb that kicked us in the ass. 25 mi and we just had 21. Okay, 21 miles and we just had a very steep hill. 21 mi in our first hill and our quads were feeling like [ __ ] So we took a little break here. There you can see London and how far we’ve already come. Now this will break the American mind. That’s a two-way road that’s 40 m an hour. Two ways. We stopped for a Rice Krispie. I probably complained. We hit 30 miles. Now, if you have a disgustingly high daily screen time like me, I highly recommend just [ __ ] off and going on a 60-mi bike ride in the English countryside. It’ll solve all of your problems. 36 miles in. We are in bum [ __ ] you. Well, I was going to say bum [ __ ] USA. We’re in bum [ __ ] UK. Our bikes because we don’t have gravel tires. Had our little walking break. I highly recommend you bring portable chargers on a long cycling ride because you don’t want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere without your phone. It started to rain again, but that’s just England for you. And then we hit 40 m. I’m pretty sure we could do 60 mi easy if it was all flat, but the hills were really killing our quads and I don’t think we were trained for that. We hit 50 mi and now I didn’t film a single thing between 50 and 60 mi because it was hell. We stopped at a pub for a burger at mile 55 and then we attempted to go up this hellish hill in which we had to walk our bikes up. It was honestly fine once we got to the top, but then we had 6 miles until we hit Brighton, and we were just over it at that point. The lactic acid in our legs was at an all-time high, but then we made it to Brighton. Yay. We got there around 6:00 p.m. and honestly, a lot of the shops were closed and we were too gassed to really enjoy it. So, we got a slice of cake. We sat on the rocks for a little bit. I think we both were in shock that we actually made it to Brighton, but it was super cute and we’ll definitely have to go back on a day trip on the train versus biking there. Don’t worry, we did not bike home. We took our bikes on the train back home and we were greeted by our kitties who were so excited to see us. Overall, it was great quality time together and I’m so grateful for our health and our ability to do that. It’s really cool to push your body past its perceived limits. Hope you enjoyed this bike vlog. We’ll do another one soon.
