Hey everyone,

I’m planning a bikepacking trip through southern Sweden this September, starting from Copenhagen. The route I have in mind is roughly 1,000 km and I’ll have 2–3 weeks to complete it, there is no rush, but since I „upgraded“ to a gravel bike this year (Cannondale Topstone EQ), I could also see myself cycling some more and go for a bigger loop.

Last year I did a similar trip through Denmark and loved it – camping near the shelter, small coastal towns. This time I’d like to experience Sweden’s south which I think could be a bit more remote.

A few details:
• Timeframe: September 2025 (flexible start date)
• Route: ~1,000 km through southern Sweden, starting in Copenhagen (screenshot of the draft route)
• Gear: I’ve got most of what I need from my Denmark trip + a new bike this year

What I’m looking for:
• Must-see highlights or hidden gems along the way
• Recommendations for routes/trails in southern Sweden (gravel-friendly if possible)
• Good camping spots or areas to avoid
• Any special gear you’d bring for Swedish autumn conditions
• Local food/drink I should try along the route

If you’ve ridden in Sweden around that time of year, I’d love to hear what you enjoyed most and what you wish you had known before starting.

Thanks a lot – and I’m happy to share my final route afterwards if anyone’s interested!

I can’t quite tell from the map but it looks like you’re going to just miss Kivik. The thing is, apple cider is a BIG DEAL in Kivik (and generally Österlen) in late September. You won’t want to miss the world’s largest apple mural, lol.

And, actually, I like the bit between Kivik and Simrishamn.

I totally get why you’re starting in Copenhagen and crossing over at Helsingør but the bike lane on the Swedish side (Malmö-Helsingborg) is nicer than the Danish side (Copenhagen-Helsingør). But the Swedish side is also longer.

And, fwiw, Helsingør is adorable so it’s worth seeing.

I’ve basically cycled between Kivik and Båstad multiple times so you can also DM me if you have questions about cafés and such.
