Rode Pontiac Lake MTB Trail today in Michigan with my buddy and it kicked our asses. By far the most challenging trail I've ridden thanks to the astronomical amount of loose rocks, and, and roots.
Does anyone have tips on how to ride those conditions properly? I had a couple of nasty wipes, I think because I slowed down too much and would catch one of the aforementioned hazards…
Picture of my new tan wall tires cause I love the look!

That’s like a pretty good amount of climbing
Yes. Drive over to River Bends Park or Addison Oaks and not get your ass kicked.
Seriously I tried Pontiac Lake on a really hot day and turned around after a few miles. Not really because of the trail itself but that’s a hilly trail for metro Detroit. I think the whole thing is 10 miles? That’s hard in this heat too, so kudos for finishing.
Looks like you cut out halfway. And the total ascent don’t look right. It should be like 700 to 900 max for the whole trail.
PLake needs some good cardio to clear. The first big climb takes so much energy out of new riders that the rest of the trail becomes exhausting.
Definitely ride more trails like Addison, Stony, Or river bends. Honestly only thing that would help you is more time on the trail to build up the cardio and the flow.
Rinse and repeat. Just keep going.
Some trails just aren’t fun. Put it behind you and find something fun.
