Don't really know what it's called, but it's that plastic thing that keeps the bottom bracket in position. I've been working on it for half an hour and it hasn't budged. At this rate, the splines are going to get worn down and then I'm going to be up a creek without a paddle. Ideas for removal would be helpful.

I notice there’s cables running under the shell. Is there a chance a cable guide bolt is holding it in place?
Could you try a hooked wrench instead of a socket for better leverage?
[You need a Park BBT-18 tool](https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/bottom-bracket-tool-bbt-18?category=Crank+%26+Bottom+Bracket). It locks onto the external teeth of the cup. You put that on, and then with washers and a nut and bolt, you clamp this tool onto the bottom bracket through the bb shell so that it can’t pop off the BB under torque. Then you get a monster crescent wrench and a breaker bar and torque out the BB out. Alternatively, as long as the washer is smaller than the flats on the BB tool, you can then clamp the BB tool into a large bench vice and twist the whole frame to loosen the BB. This assumes you have a solid bench vice.
Remember you’re just trying to break the BB free. Once you get a bit of movement, take the nut and bolt out and remove normally.
Good luck.
Edit: just discovered that Park [makes a tool to specifically hold the BB tool onto your frame](https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/bottom-bracket-tool-retaining-system-bbt-rs). It’s fancy, and I believe you can’t clamp into a vice using it, but if you’re feeling flush and like expensive bike tools you might only use once, they will sell you one. You could use it with the BBT-18 as well.
