A few months ago I bought this sonder cortex for £675. Thought it was a decent deal, but my mate just got a nukeproof reactor with full fox factory for £1,200 and I’m jealous. I’m debating what I should do to get the most out of my bike. I ride quite big stuff, 20 foot gaps, double black tech, and obviously the 120/130 travel is not enough. I’m only 16 so I have to work out what I can afford in what order, but my plan was to get a dropper first, then new forks, maybe pike select+ with 140mm travel, then new brakes(4piston) and from there I’m not sure. I want to sell it but according to my dad I’m not allowed. Even though I bought it myself. Any recommendations for upgrades and how to get good stuff cheap?

  1. Why does your Dad say you aren’t allowed to sell it?

You could do all those upgrades but you would be a lot better off to trade up to a new bike. Doing major upgrades is rarely a good return on investment when you do come to sell the bike, more likely the opposite where you take a hit vs if you were selling the upgraded parts separately.

Also upgrading parts instead of the bike in a case like this will mean you are on a worse bike and will by the sounds of it potentially hold back your riding, also potentially increase the risk you get hurt if you are trying to keep up with friends on more capable bikes.

Dropper is an luxus item since all you need is a quick release on your seat stay and 10sec for the same effect. If you buy used parts you can get a lot for much cheaper than new at a low risk. If your dad is saying no explain to him he has to also support you with a yes.
