In January we set off to get in a winter adventure. In freezing temperatures and finding adventure right from the city, we set off on a 100mile gravel adventure out to the coast and to Margate.
This was Ben Biddells’ first 100miles and on his new bike, we giggled all the way!
I know I have not posted a film for a while, so please enjoy these few short edits why I work upon some bigger adventure stories for you all.
Happy Pedalling
hi I’m bar got in it’s 5: in the morning the sky is clear it’s minus 2 or minus 3 but we’re on the bike and we’re going to go and ride hopefully to do and do our first ever 200 km ride together which is 135 mil then 110 or so but it was a while ago this could be quite hard work right we doing a friend from work Ben so we go down to hide Park and meet him [Music] there you would have fought before ridning 200 km I might have pumped the tires up no sh good job a very good bike shop has a pump out saw [Music] it it’s that meeting point for Wellington Arch just by hide Park we should have met her at 5: I me a little later I have to say it’s almost 6 and I I filmed I pum ties of after around so hopefully hope you be here soon and the adventures of DOA will probably begin what time did you go this Lorry morning hello it’s such a great temperature we city outside in the cold I’m [Music] boiling we say this like she eyes it’s terrifying especially [Music] one-handed is just after 7 and we’re getting past the O2 Millennium Dome and we’re riding into the sunrise It Feels So cheeky and amazing to be of this in an [Music] adventure Ice Ice Baby ice Ace baby we’re doing well we’re coming out towards stford or IR on the south side and the sky is on fire not only riding on Ice it’s one of the prettiest mornings I’ve ever had in London and the Sun is just Rising everyone get out your beds get it right your fight [Music] woo what’s going on Ben having a good old little hot chocolate good old bacon buty perfect power on it’s a beautiful place to be brought me to the [Music] [Applause] [Music] best we’re in an absolutely icy Paradise right now it’s quite terrifying but beautiful [Music] maybe so good Moment of Truth again 25 goes across the top of this bridge which means only one thing on the other side of here of London woo [Music] they’ve only made it to Rochester Rochester Castle it’s a proper [Music] Castle I think we’ve has ticked over 70 75 miles now sun is still out still absolutely freezing but we are ticking along we’ve had quite spectacular changes of the countryside actually um fing not bad we had to stop in wherever we just were I’m not remember now we’re in faam because I can see the brewery Shepherd’s NE Brewery in fan so that’s where we are right now got little Sage little stops that recharge for a while we’re not sure we’re going to make all 200k but we’re having a wonderful day it’s amazing how all of this is is just from London we’re in Kent obviously but yeah really really cool yeah let’s see let’s keep pedaling and I definitely want to get to w we want to see classic Seaside Town see you there how are you feeling could be better but it’s bomy it’s Bling b you you look like you’re absolutely roasting Ben like you couldn’t have put any more legs roast chicken what’s underneath your bab shorts uh leg War yeah fish and chips all the way that’s what feeling good and you’re feeling good yeah 100 miles that’s my aim yeah 100 miles Ro get there you can’t have fishing chips until youve done it no definitely not right w we gone from slippery ice to Slippery mud not quite sure what to do do he thought it was solid it just wasn’t the worst combination where you going the trails that way found a little bit mud back there didn’t we we sure did Howes a little muddy and not as bad as my bottom it looks of myself right there goes our fast progress but we believe the town over there is wable and I’m definitely having a coffee [Music] [Music] yes [Music] he’s warm he’s toasty he’s bik sto to working because he has so much mud so we got to wit ball just had coffee and cake and a sausage roll and lots of other food and drink um we’ve done 85 miles officially so the game on today is definitely 100 miles um 100% which gets us to Margate and then we might see what happens we’re thinking 100’s going to be enough with we it is January it is very cold and it’s going to get really cold when this sun has gone in it’s just gone in and I have to say I just looked in the L my hair people pay for good money for this hair do let me know what you think of it could have done that inside who is this man I’m with [Music] today maybe Ben doesn’t like me for taking him this way he was all clean he was all clean and now it’s muddy [Music] again it’s now officially dark it’s now really really cold the Tide’s coming which is cool stunning Sunset um and we just kind of whiz along the coast and he keep going along you may not got many videos in between because there’s not much to see anymore which also meanwhile we might not go all the way around but things are good things are good I hope you can see roughly me and um we’ll see you definitely in [Music] maret 99 100 we’ve done it 100 miles on the nose so we’re probably going to make it up here tomorrow gate fish and chips and see how we get on W good sense of accomplishment there Ben’s first 100 yes Welcome to The 100 Club on the checkpoint so it’s official we reached Margate found it got our reward in the backpack I’ve got nice warm back now but we smashed it we’ve decided we’ve touched the Turner Gallery we’re going to be back going to touch it again carry on around the coast we’ve had fun into our next adventure J for now what an end in Epic and the train is warm no bike reservation absolute winner

that does look like a perfect end to a long day; good, wholesome fun
Seeing 100 miles come up on the head unit is the best feeling of achievement. 3 years ago last week me and a good friend rode a 100 mile coast to coast (our own route, Tynemouth to Silloth along Hadrian's Wall). It was the final training ride before we drove to Cornwall to start the Tornado Tribute Tour of England, a memorial ride to commemorate the lives lost in the 91 Gulf War (in its 30th anniversary year). 675 miles over 10 days from St Eval to Washington via Birmingham and East Anglia, with memorial stops along the way. Happy memories (and we raised over Β£43k for charity!).
Barryβs back fabulous π
Great video Barry. What I love, is your undeniable love for simply cycling. It's not about how fast you get there, it's about the journey and taking it all in and having fun along the way. Ride a good few miles, stop re-fuel, ride a good few miles, stop re-fuel and repeat. Looking forward to the next video. Oh, one thing, you don't happen to have the GPX for this ride do you? I'm Reigate way and ride to Putney a few times, using the Thames path etc from Kingston, and getting to Kingston via Boxhill/Leatherhead mostly off road, so would like to combine that with this route and ride it slowly and in sections.
Inspirational as usual!
