Hi, I recently fixed up my father’s old Colnago master (pictured with the seat post screw removed), but for the life of me I can’t lower the seat. It won’t budge, even after applying rust penetrator and reapplying after a day. I’ve tried clamps, wrenches and bashing it but still nothing. Any advice on ways to get it unstuck? I think my next best course of action would be to buy some stronger penetrating fluid and just waiting, so if anyone has suggestions on what the best stuff to use would be, that would be great as well. Thanks.

Well believe it or not but there are some YouTube videos on how to remove the seatpost. It’s a beautiful frame so be careful.

  2. Can you flip the bike upside down and shoot penetrating fluid thru the bottle bosses?

Does the post come out at all ?

How long is the post ?

    Is it a 27.2mm post ?

    Is the post straight ?

Is there something in the seat tube that’s restricting the post and blocking it from moving ?

Has the post and seat tube been greased before it was installed..or ever ?

( if not, the post may have corroded in the seat tube…when aluminum corrodes the aluminum creates bumps on it, that can really get the post stuck…like the post swells and the steel doesn’t..then you need to drill out the post or cut it out of the seat tube, as a last resort).
