  1. Take out what is in between there, and maybe use a shim instead. Beyond that you can use carbon paste or particle paste.

  2. Cut up a soda can to make a shim. Add more layers until it holds. The handlebar may be the wrong size for the stem. Check the gap on the stem, if it’s touching means the handlebar is too small.

    Loosen it, clean it and slip a shim of low grit sandpaper in there, like 80-120.

    Good suggestions in the replies also check the bolt isn’t loosening on it’s own . check the thread on the bolt and perhaps fit a washer or lockwasher.

  5. I’ll check the bolt. Had a similar issue with a seatpost. Fixed it by cleaning the threads, greasing, then putting a washer as the bolt kept biting into the frame. In my case, the tightness felt was not from the seat collar clamping the seatpost but rather the friction from the bolt interfacing with the frame incorrectly.
