While removing a spacer on my Grizl, I overtightened the top cap screw and it snapped. đź«
When it broke, the wedge came out with it.

My questions are:

How much does this already compromise cockpit safety?

Is it okay to roll a short distance (to the repair shop), or is this strictly a “don’t ride until fixed” situation?

Thanks in advance! 🥲

  1. Meh, it does compression for your headset, I’d argue that if the pinch bolts are torqued, you can do some light riding till it’s fixed. I certainly would. You can get a top cap from Amazon/LBS fairly easy. Those plastic Acros headsets are f-king shit.

  2. How far until the LBS?
What I always do is lean heavily on the handle bars, pull them sideways. If that doesn’t give me a bad impression, I’ll bike to the LBS at a moderate and comfortable pace. Gets me there safely for the past 20 years or so on all sorts of bikes with all sorts of problems.
