    If they don’t feel like they’re going to lose votes over it, they don’t give a damn.

    Someone pointed out to me that separated bike lanes are safer for cyclists, but if they don’t create a way to clean them, they will quickly fill up with broken glass, stones and garbage. It’s hard enough getting them to clean the lanes even when a regular street sweeper will do it!

    That’s just the state of bike infrastructure in the USA right now. It’s not going to get better until we have new leadership at the top. What you have there is better than what most of the country has.

    In my city, we have some bike lanes, but they’re disconnected to the point that a fellow can’t even get across town on them. The pavement is also not as good; it’s cracked up with potholes, chunks of concrete and broken glass being pretty common.
