My BB was creaking and loosening so I ordered replacement parts and took it apart. The eccentric shell has cracked into two pieces. I had the shell out once before so I know it was in one piece fresh out of the factory.
Any ideas how this could have happened?

More seriously, it looks really clean so it’s probably a production problem
Cheap base material. The raw tube was made of porthole extrusion grade instead of drawn seamless material so when the material is formed into a tube it is weak where it knits back together from the forming die. Complicated and worth a Google. I have an old DT hub that failed the same way
