Hi! So the threads in my lever fouled (upper parts of it) , and the original bleed screw could not be threaded in anymore , but I found a random slightly longer M5 screw fitting very well. Will it work? Can it damage something because it's longer? It seem to work fine, the lever is firm, and did not see any leak yet.

Looks good if it works
I destroyed the Seal in the lever with a screw to long. The pressure Ratio inside the lever is not correct with a nonfitting screw
Brakes and other things that keep your teeth in your head aren’t things to mess around with. That being said, compress the lever and tie something around it overnight. If you come back, no oil has leaked and there’s pressure still, I’d probably ride it until I could get another lever.
I already ordered another, it is an entry level lever so not expensive but just came up with this solution and wondered if anybody did the same. It also bugged me that this is a brand new brake. Might be my mistake but did everything carefully at the first bleeding, so it could have been an already failed part.
If the threads match, why not cut the bolt shorter to match?
i recently did this. you should cut the screw to be only a little longer. shorter then the one in your picture. right behind the screw hole is a rubber diaphragm that seperates the oil from the air in the brake. i punctured that with the screw i used, so i had to buy a new diaphragm unit (they’re cheap and replaceable)
i installed a screw that was only a little longer then the original now and it works perfectly. i used a shortened disk brake rotor bolt
Add some thread locker to the original or replacement screw?
