When I run the pedals backwards it’s fine but it is completely jammed trying to run them forwards. I’m wondering if there’s a quick fix or if I can/should replace the whole part.

You need to beware of bending or breaking the hanger (that’s the bit of the frame that the mech is attached to), so I’d suggest not trying to bend it back into shape without removing it first. In which case you may as well just get a new one, they’re pretty cheap for lower end bikes.
Once it’s off check the hanger is straight.
But you’ll need to break your chain, have you got a chain tool? Is the chain equipped with a quick link?
It looks like the derailer cage is crumbled and also the hanger looks bent
Bend it back
