The chain should kind of make an “s” shape in the rear derailleur (the thing that switches gears) YouTube has plenty of good videos just look up “how to route a bike chain”

How did you get the beans above the franks ?! 😂

Seriously though the other post with the image of the correct chain routing will solve that problem quickly.

The other issue is the derailleur touching the spokes. This will require adjusting the limit screws of the derailleur and tuning. Rather than try to explain, head over to YouTube and watch some videos of “how to adjust your rear derailleur “ . Now is the best time to start learning and if all else fails take it to an LBS.

    Good luck

You know normally I’m a huge proponent of people doing their own work, and I like explaining what’s gone wrong and how to fix it. Know that I’m not saying this to be a dick:

You should take this to a shop.

What did you do to your derailleur?? You need to take it off and watch a video and see how to orient it and route the chain properly. And DO NOT turn the wheel or gears rn please it could destroy that thing just get it off of there first

I worked as a mechanic for 15 years in bike shops and often people would come in with a problem and ask me “Is this something I can fix myself”. I would always reply, “I don’t know…can you?”. I had people buy a tool for $10 return with the tool damaged and the bike in a lot worse shape than it was. Selling a spoke wrench was all good for a laugh. I know people who I would trust to know how to use a Phillips screwdriver to remove a Phillips screw. Rarely did people want to admit they are not mechanically inclined. Some people need to be more honest with themselves about their skills.

That said, these days YouTube exists and you can literally look at videos on how correctly run a chain

I would actually say taking the derailleur off yourself, if you have the tools and are comfortable doing so, would be better. It would be a nightmare for the mechanism if you wound up accidentally rolling the tire back in its current state base on the way it’s extending into the wheel. A bike shop should be able to realign everything if it has been bent at all and it doesn’t look like anything has broken off, so it should be a straightforward fix, if not just rerouting it properly.

Edit: sorry this got separated from the other comment chain

Bro I’ve been a mechanic for 5 years now. I’m currently high as shit and have been trying to figure out how you fuck up that bad for the last like 10 minutes. Your chain is routed wrong lol

  8. Now is the time you drop all tools and watch a dozen youtube videos on chain and derailleur wrenching. Then pick up the tools and watch everything again in slow motion while you work
