Take a step back into history with this footage from 1966 in Queens Park, Bedford. Cycling down the streets of Coventry Road, you can see they’re far less parked cars, much quieter then compared to now and a lot cleaner. You can then see the corner of it road where there was once a corner shop. With their backgrounds of hardship, poverty, and little education, security had seldom been more than a dream. Now that dream was coming true. For the first time in their lives, their families were growing up in a district where there were jobs galore. And for the Italians in particular, there were plenty of their fellow countrymen with them to ease the problems of settling in.
