Solo cycle trip down Eurovelo 6 between Passau and Vienna. Following along on the Danube.
This is 4th leg – Grein to Melk
[Music] [Music] Start of fourth leg. We start off taking a ferry across. Uh the road is not great today. So um going to trust the locals. [Music] about [Music] just got off the ferry. Another rainy day heading into Melk, another uh riverside town in Austria. So, it’s probably going to be I think it’s about 40 to 45 km. Uh hoping to just bike straight there. Uh maybe stop by a little town called Ebes. Uh and check out. Uh here we go. [Music] [Music] The hotel manager was telling me that this has been one of the wetest Julies they’ve seen in in grain and and along the Danube in Austria. I guess I picked the wrong time to come. I asked if there was going to flood and they said usually no. Uh but they have had some floods in the last years as well. Uh so hopefully the rain doesn’t cause too much trouble for these guys. [Music] These uh sour apple hair were a lifesaver yesterday. [Music] I’m only 8 km in. There’s still 40 more of this. Look how wet I am. This is This is terrible. Still going. Still raining. I think it’s just head down and and pedal. [Music] Okay, just going to stop and get out of the rain for a second. I think there’s about 9 or eight more kilometers to get to ES and that’ll be halfway. [Music] Still gone. I don’t think I remember what the sun looks like. Okay, it looks like the rain is easing a bit. I also just spoke with a very lovely couple that was uh getting changed and getting dry in the hut as well. And uh yeah, it was really nice. They’re from Germany and they’re biking to to Vienna as well. Time to sprint to ES. Yep. Looking much better than 20 minutes ago. Yeah, definitely looks a bit better or feels a bit better. Spoke too soon. I need to dry off soon. Okay, finally here. Let’s stop a little bit for over there. So, I think the rain is easing off again. Uh that couple that just walked by, they uh they gave me some good uh bakery recommendations. So, I’m uh I’m going to head there now to see if I can warm up. That’s a little bit better. Uh hopefully I didn’t jinx myself and I can make uh the rest of the 3 kilometers into into town and go to that bakery that couple was telling me about. [Music] Couldn’t [Music] find the cafe that they were telling me about. The couple, the really nice couple, but uh not the next best thing. I think uh it’s much deserved at this point. Yeah. Just dry off a little bit. [Music] Yeah, just had to cut through some pretty crazy traffic cuz the river is flooding and we couldn’t continue on. Oh, more flooding. Just never stops.
