Hey folks – quick question about inner thigh seam wear on gravel bibs.

I’ve had a weird issue with my Alt Road Bib Shorts (1st gen). After about a year of regular gravel riding, the inner thigh seams started rubbing out hard – one side fully came apart, the other’s going too. It’s along the seamline, not the fabric itself.

I’m wondering, is this a manufacturing issue, or something I’m doing wrong?
– I ride mostly gravel, singletrack descends
– Bibs fit well, I followed all care instructions
– Saddle: Specialized Power 143mm
– I’m on the shorter side , maybe my thighs rub more?
– MAAP has external seams, Pas Normal has hidden seams, no such issues with those (so far)

Could this be a saddle width issue? Maybe I need a narrower one? Or are these just not built to last?

  1. Do you have a saddlebag? If so then your bibs are likely rubbing on the strap(s) or the bag itself.

  2. Terrible spot for a seam in a pair of bike shorts. It’s sure to fail from the friction of rubbing against the saddle.

Buy bibs without seams along the inner thigh.

This isn’t a failure of materials or workmanship, but totally on the poor design.
