Inspired by a recent post here, I decided to check out a portion of the Catskill Scenic Trail while spending the weekend up at my cabin nearby. I couldn’t get out until early afternoon, so I opted for a simple out and back: Bloomville to Stamford and back, just shy of 26 miles total.
Conditions couldn’t have been better: breezy, 70s, bluebird skies. The trail itself is a mix of hard and soft gravel, winding through some seriously beautiful Catskill countryside. You get a great balance of open pastures, quiet streams, and shaded stretches. It felt incredibly peaceful, with hardly anyone else out there.
Stamford made for a perfect turnaround town. If you’re looking to grab a coffee or bite, it’s got options. I thought about continuing on to Grand Gorge, but honestly, I was content with the ride I had. I’ll definitely come back to do the full stretch when I’ve got more time.
I rode my Salsa Vaya Ti, which handled the route well, but I’m starting to feel the limitations of the 35mm tires it came with. Thinking about bumping up to 45s for better comfort and grip as I get into rougher gravel and light singletrack.
Highly recommend this trail if you're in the area. Smooth miles, great scenery, and very chill vibes.
Post-ride, I kicked back in the shade with a Focal Banger from The Alchemist. Perfect end to a perfect day.
