Hey folks, I just picked up this Felt F1 R-Series road bike and wanted to get some opinions on whether it’s actually a solid ride or just vintage for vintage’s sake.

It’s a Scandium frame (labeled “Custom double butted Scandium tubeset”), full Campagnolo Record 10-speed mechanical groupset, carbon crank, carbon fork, and a pair of Campy carbon bottle cages. Size 58.

I paid $250 for it. It rides well but some components are a little worn, I’ll probably do a chain, pads, tires, cables, etc. Would cost me another $150–$200 max to get it tuned and refreshed.

If it’s the right size and fits well then you’ve done pretty good for the money. Campag for 250 is very nice. Scandium is an element that they use to alloy with aluminium, so it’s essentially an aluminium frame (but this is why aluminium and alloy are often used interchangeably).

If it rides well then imo I’d avoid jumping to replace everything straight away, just do little bits here and there as you feel the need. Learn how to measure your chain is the main thing, if it’s worn too far then it can take the cassette and even chainrings with it.
