Could be a couple of things, pull it apart, service the hub and see what’s wrong.

Might be nothing, might be something minor or major

I think probably a snapped axle, based on the axle moving out one side but still visible on the other

  2. Looks like a DT Swiss 350 maybe? Those pop apart super easy for service. If that’s the case make sure the ratchet is in good shape, grease, and go!

There are rear hubs where the freehub body pulls right off with minimal force. Is that a DT Swiss 350 hub? If so, then it’s probably normal.

When the wheel is in the frame, everything stays in place. Just be aware that the cassette can fall off when the wheel is off the bike.

  4. Normal behavior for a DT Swiss star ratchet system. You can pull the freehub body and cassette all the way off, if you’d like; won’t hurt anything.

IIRC thats normal for ratchet LN hubs, they need such little retention force for the ratchet mechnism to move as freely as possible.

The cap on the axle end will retain the freehub body when the wheel is mounted

The DT Swiss hub is designed for tool-less service. You’ve discovered this feature organically.

This is by design. Its fine. Just shove it back on.

This exact thing gets posted here all the time.

  7. This should be normal for DT Swiss Ratchet System Hubs. You can easily regrease it that way or even change the gears inside.

Pretty normal, kind of a pain to get the pawls to stay down when repacking. If there’s a decent amount of grease they may stick to that.

When it’s back down make sure those splines go into the matching splines in the hub. Otherwise should be good to go. It won’t move once the wheel is on and tightened
