Join me for an authentic and immersive journey as I explore my hometown, Nottingham! In this video, I kick off the adventure by trying out a **Lime electric bike** for the very first time. Ride along with me as I cycle through the expansive **Forest Recreation Ground** and then navigate the charming paths of the **Arboretum**, a popular spot especially with students, where I even bump into a friend, Lang! Discover the park’s unique features, including a Japanese-style structure and an aviary with parrots.

After an exhilarating ride (which cost me £5.25, but with a £4 discount!), we head into the bustling **Nottingham City Centre**. The atmosphere is buzzing, even on an overcast summer day, with kids off school and the popular **Nottingham Beach** set up in the **Old Market Square**.

Experience the dynamic street life as we walk up **Clumber Street**, known as one of the busiest streets outside of London, observing market stalls and talented **buskers**. We pass by the main shopping hub, the **Victoria Centre**, and explore around the iconic **Old Market Square** and the **Council House**, including the famous ‘Left Lion’ statue.

Our tour continues down **Exchange Walk**, past St. Mary’s Church, before diving into the vibrant **Lace Market** and **Hockley** areas. Here, you’ll discover independent shops in hidden spots like **Cobden Chambers**, explore diverse eateries, popular pubs, and new food places. We also pass the **Broadway Cinema** and soak in the diverse, LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere of the area.

This video is my first exploring Nottingham, as I usually make travel content about places like Turkey, Cyprus, and Tunisia. I filmed this walking tour with my DJI Pocket camera and used a lapel mic for clear sound on a windy day.

Today I’m going to be doing something a little bit different. Today I’m going to be getting on one of these line bikes for the first time and showing you around my home city of Nottingham. So looking at the bike, it’s got a little bit of graffiti on, but this one is fully charged. Not tires. It’s well worn there. So first of all, I’m going to unlock it on the app here. By the way, if you’d like um4 pound free ride, just uh check out the video description. I’ve got a code to share with you for £4 off. Hopefully, we’re soon going to be good to go. [Music] All right. To get used to it, I’m going to just ride around uh round around the Forest Recreation Ground. This is one of the um best parks in Nottingham in my opinion. It’s one of the largest, that’s for sure. And uh not far from here is another park called the Arboritum. It’s also very popular, especially with students cuz it’s close to the student area. How fast are we going? It’s pretty fast, you know. I’m going to go up one of the steepest hills. See how it does on a steep hill. Here’s one of the steepest hills. I’m having to pedal a bit harder, but it’s coping all right. very bump bumpy surface. It’s like proper cobblestones. This is from from the olden days. And they’ve been uh made even more bumpy because of the tree roots underneath. But I think I’m going to make it, you know, at the top of here. I think it’s a war war memorial. So from here we’ll go to the next park which is the arboritum. I’m bit warm now. Wonder how the stabilization did on that video. It’s on the road. Let’s get over the road. Then um go on to the road. As long as there’s not a tram coming. I think I’ll be faster than the tram anyway. So, after showing you the arboritum, what I’m going to do is go into the city center and have a quick walk around the city center. See what’s going on today cuz got got this week off work. Uh, seems like summer’s over already. I had to put my um duvet on my bed again last night. So, here we are already at the next park, which is the Arboritum. There’s no sign to say no no cycling. So, let’s have a leisurely cycle through. They’re saying that these bikes are so rapid. I don’t know if it’s even possible to have a leisurely leisurely cycle. That’s a big dog. Here’s a band stand. They do all sorts of events here. Oh, is that one of my friends? Is that you? It’s you. Is that you? It’s me. How are you doing? I’m all right. Good. You all right? Yeah. I’m making a video. I’ve got this this bike for the first time. So, I’m going to go into the city center. Yeah. Making video. Yeah. Oh, wow. That would be a good video. I hope so. It’s not the best weather, is it? Yeah. All right, I’ll see you hopefully see you later. All right, though. See you in a bit. That was uh one of my friends, Lang. Big up Lang, if you’re watching. This bike makes a funny noise. There’s all sorts of paths that you can explore in this park. Build up some speed. Well, there’s nettles there. Don’t want to fall in the nettles. Squirrel running up the tree. This is called the arboritum pot because arbor means uh trees. Oh, have I gone the wrong way? I need to go over the grass. Cross country. I’m not a lime bite hooligan, honestly. It’s a nice little um nice little bridge here. See that nice bridge? But I’m going to show you something perhaps even more interesting over this way. There’s a statue here. I think this statue is Is it Queen Victoria? Can’t quite remember. Who is it? Uh oh, it’s a MP. But look at this. Not the council worker. I mean the thing in the middle here. This is quite quite amazing. I did a video here where I flew my drone around that. It’s like a Japanese style thing. As you can see, let’s go around the whole thing. It’s really well maintained. Must be difficult to do those hedges. It’s doing a very good job. Trying to make the camera flip back around to me. Hello camera. It helps if I press the right button. [ __ ] I’m not very good at starting this. It’s difficult to get going from the start. When it starts moving, it’s fine. So, next, let’s head to the city center. I’m thinking which is the most interesting way to go. Uh, let’s just go the main main route. So, Nottingham is a city that got its name from a old an old name. I think it was in the Saxon days it was called Snottenham. Um, meaning the town of the Snot people, believe it or not. And it’s had a few nicknames over the years. Um, but uh we call it Nottingham. People who who were born in these parts with the Nottingham accent. Oo, it’s building up some rapid speed. Anyway, I better point the camera forwards. So, you can actually see where we’re going. Yeah, if you’re into nature, wildlife, it’s a great place to visit. There’s hundreds of different kind of trees. Looks like there’s an organized group here. There’s a duck pond. Then on the left hand side there is this Avery with parrots. I never knew they did guided tours. This bike’s making a noise like I’ve stolen it, but honestly, I’ve not. So, here’s here’s the main sign. Look, the Arboritum maintained by the city council here. There’s the ride with pride tram going to toteen and they’ve got cycle lane here so I can use the cycle lane. On the left hand side you’ll see some interesting uh buildings that are to do with Trent University. See that modern building there. I always get stuck at this juncture. Um, so it’s not far now to the city center at all. I wonder what we’re going to find there. Come on, traffic lights. There’s the tram. That one’s going to a hook. Surely it’s our turn now. Yes. Look both ways. Remember the highway code. And let’s continue straight on which goes to an area with uh the theater royal. I think we’re running out of cycle lane at this point. See this this guy here uh on the right trying to race me. So, this big building on the left here is um Trent University main building a monstrosity. And the one behind it, the strange looking orange one, that is the um theater royal building. Ahead of us, some old proper old buildings. See that one with the orange bricks? So, we’re nearly in the city center. I need to find somewhere to park up and then um we’ll explore by foot in the traditional style of jetacket journeys. Just need to find a place to park without running anybody over. Let’s go to the old market square. That will that will definitely have parking. Oh, that was easier than I thought crossing there. So, now we’re coming up to the Old Market Square area, the main meeting point and center of Nottingham. It’s a noisy bus. There should be a place to park the bike around here. Currently in the square there is there is an event on as you can see they’ve got the England flag flying there and um there’s actually a beach set up in the old market square. So let’s find somewhere to park this bike. It’s the first time I’ve used lime bikes. So, not got much idea of what I’m doing. There’s certain places where you have to park them. There’s another guy over there with one. Busy crossing here. Come on. I need to find somewhere to park. I cannot find anywhere. I’ll have to consult the map. That’s the really loud bells of the council house building. [Music] I really don’t want to go too far from here. I’m going to have to check the map. [Music] Where can I park? [Music] I cannot see where this place is. Clark park at the blue docks. I think Cozy Club. All right, I’m quite close. swap them together. Mara, that’s over there. I guess as you use these more, you get more used to it. Especially if you’ve already noticed where the parking spots are. Says over here. Oh, yeah. I think it’s here. Is it here? Let’s check again. No, I’m still not in the right place. Tourist Street. I think it’s up for the next raid outside. Cozy club apparently. What is it? Oh, there’s closer club. There’s the parking spot. So yeah, this seems to be the most difficult part of using line bikes. Um, finding where to park it. There’s a picture of the parking place. I’ve gone past it. Okay, let’s turn around. Should be somewhere here. Oh yes, I think this is it. Oh, just used the bell inadvertent, you know. Are we here? I hope so. I think this would do, you know. Park in the parking bay. It’s not very clear at all the name. I’m going to put it here. There’s no wonder you see them parked all over the place. Now, let’s see if this is acceptable to the app. going to say I’ll park correctly. Take a photo. That looks all right to me. Yeah. Okay. So, that cost me £525 for that journey. But remember, I got the4 pound discount. So, what do you think to the price? I can hear one click clacking and beeping somewhere. Oh, here’s a guy. That’s Look at this. Those guys haven’t paid for theirs. They don’t know about the £4 off code. So, personally, I’d say that £5 is a bit £525 is a bit expensive just for that journey. uh considering the other ways of getting into the city center, but it was good fun and with £4 off, it’s actually good value, I’d say. So, now it’s time to say goodbye to the line bike and uh have a walk around the city center on foot. It’s always feels funny uh walking after cycling, even on an electric one. Not so bad, but like my legs are a bit heavier. So, let’s first of all go up one of the busiest streets outside of London, which is Columbus Street in Nottingham. Have a look what we see on the way. It’s a market stall here. So there’s some fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s Greg’s beggar outside. Gregs on the pavement. Now not all beggars are homeless in Nottingham. Some of them are um some of them just come out to beg to support their habits and there are homeless charities you can donate to. Got a busker here. So there’s all sorts of shops in Nottingham. It’s quite a good city for shopping. Quite a good choice. [Music] Still trying to get into my bottle of drink to have a drink. [Music] Oh, quite a few buskers out today. Down this alley. Another another bagger there. Looks like somebody’s being sat there. And across this road is the Victoria Center. Probably the Well, it is the biggest shopping center in Nottingham City. It’s the only one. I think we used to have a Broad Marsh shopping center. Um but just the Victoria Center now. To the right you can get to more independent places and then to the left you can get uh basically back to the old market square. Uh bit of a dangerous crossing here. There’s been a few accidents with buses colliding with people. Maybe because they’re distracted by that big screen. I don’t know. But yeah, let’s go back to the old market square because that’s where all the activity is really around the around the square. Realized that guy is doing some kind of uh Islamic singing behind me. to music. I was under the impression music was haram. Um, interesting. I’ not heard that before. So, coming up now to the other side of the council house. There’s the big council house building. There’s a person sleeping over there near the doorway and over here as well. More signs of um rough sleeping. I’ll just go up again. Typical of all UK cities, I guess. This place has been there for years. Hasty, tasty pizza. So small portions of pizza. Good if you want to snack, I guess, though. Now, if you need the L, the only the only public toilets in the city center are down this little alley here between Rush Hair and Clarks, just up that alley. Otherwise, if you need the L, obviously best places are things like McDonald’s. Um, it’s not like in the Netherlands where you have to buy something, get a receipt to get into it. Um, yeah, you can actually get in without paying for anything. So behind me here, this lion statue used to be the meeting point where we would all Yeah. In the background behind me is the meeting place where we used to always meet on a Saturday, that left lion. Um, so let’s head down now to this little road. Forget the name of it. Oh, it’s Exchange Walk. At one point I had a job at the McDonald’s down here. It’s now closed though, although I think it is still kind of secretly open and it does uh deliveries only from here. At the bottom of here, see that steep up? That’s um St. Mary’s Church. So yeah, in the comments, let me know what you think about Nottingham. This is the building that used to be McDonald’s. You can still smell the McDonald’s. I think it is secretly operating in there just for doing deliveries. Oh, here’s another lineback spot. That’s a good jacket potato place there. I think it’s one of the best rated and that’s St. Mary’s Church. So, which way next? Let’s go up this way. So, this is the first video I’ve made in my hometown of Nottingham. Um, if you’re new to the channel, I normally make um travel videos. Um, I’ve got all sorts. We’ve got Alana in Turkey. We’ve got Cyprus, uh, Tunisia. Check out the channel. I’m sure you’ll find some interesting videos on there. But as I’m not going on holiday until September, I thought I’ll make this video and show you around my hometown. It’s a side view of the um council house there. And this is the area called uh the lace market in Hawkley where you’ll find more of the independent stores. You can see there’s a huge range of shops to choose from here. Here’s the big issue seller that I saw on a knots online video. This guy’s very enthusiastic Romanian guy. So, yeah, we need to go to the top there, but I’ve already been up that road. That’s where I parked the line bike. I don’t know if that was the correct place or not, really. So, I’ll go a different way. Um, show you some other sites. There’s a mini shopping arcade inside there with some posh shops. Uh, that’s the exchange building. Used to be used as headquarters for the Nottingham City Council, I believe. So, take a right here. That’s Columbus Street again there. Busiest street outside of London. And we’ll go up here to Hawk. [Music] That Fox Cafe there is pretty good. There’s a Rough and Ready pub here. Um, what’s the name of it? The Thirdland Pub. That That pub gets really busy in the evenings. Oh my god. Ollie, stop running away. So, um, Hawkley that we’re going to next is one of the more, uh, independent and, uh, um, diverse areas of Nottingham. Looking for a little alleyway where there’s some interesting things as well. Oh, yeah. This place here, this place is called Cobden Chambers. And not many people know about this. It’s a little bit of a hidden spot. There’s um all sorts of independent shops down here to explore. Let’s get to Hawkley itself. Another one there as well. All these little alleyways. This pub gets extremely busy in the evening nowadays. And there’s another one here called uh what’s this one called? Lloyd’s bar. Another very very busy pub part of Weather Spoons. Now, this charity shop can be pretty good. I’ve seen some seen some Air Jordan trainers in there before. Um, but they were not my size, unfortunately. They’re quite a rare pair and they were really cheap. So, you can see loads of independent places to eat here. This coffee and spud uh the B bagel project. They’re both brand new. And a little bit further down, there’s a very well-known one called Ugly Bread Bakery there, but it used to be further up the road and they’ve just just moved here recently. Many new places that I’ve never been to before. There’s the Rainbow Road. Strange as it goes the other way across the road to normal. Man, there’s a choice of places. There’s quite a good fish and chip shop there, Lace Market Fish Bar, although the one I prefer is on St. James’s Street um just off the market square. So down there there is the Broadway cinema that play that shows independent films. There’s so much I can’t can’t even tell you everything. But you see it’s pretty nice area in the city center. Few minor issues, but nothing really major. Same as any other city, I think. In fact, I’d say Notting is probably one of the better ones. Let me know what you think in the comments. Got more rainbow roads here. Didn’t know there was so many. That rough trade is a popular uh think it’s a record shop in a bar. Something going off there lot. And here this is the Broadway cinema. See a lot of rainbow flags around this area. As I say, it’s very diverse. There’s an Italian shop there. That’s pretty good. I’ve been in there before. There’s Brew Dog here, a I believe it’s a local brewer. And underneath there, there is a very good burger place as well. It is a bit windy today. I think the wind is blowing the gimbal a bit. So, it was vibrating. That place, the Lord Roberts, is a gay bar, as you can see by all the flags. Um, they do welcome everybody in there. So now we are coming up to uh the main road um trying to remember the name of it. Lower Parliament Street I believe. So not a lot here. There is a pub there that is they used to do karaoke and they’ve got a pool table there as well. Quite a good bar called the New Market. They specialize in gin as well if you’re a gin fan. Oh, the brand new building there that I’ve not seen before. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. And that place there with the globe on top is a nightclub. It used to be called the Pala. Not sure what it is now. I’m a little bit too old for nightclubs now. Um, but if you know, let me know in the comments what that’s currently called. Is it called ocean? Used to be ocean at one point. Now there’s lots of new places. Char biscuit, chili flames. Many, many places to eat here. All of them brand new. So on this road, we’re going back up to the Victoria Center up here above the Victoria Shopping Center. There’s actually flats there. One of the highest buildings in the city center. Here we’ve got a Will Co that’s closed down now. So far, nobody else has took that unit. This is generally the area where you can get all your buses. There’s not actually I don’t think there’s an actual bus station. The buses are just they just all start from these um streets. There’s Poundland bag there. Now I’m going to get back a different way. I’m going to show you the tram. Um I believe Oh, a new Mexican place as well there. Bouges seem to change so often. There’s a Popeye’s across there. That used to be one of the worst Burger Kings in the country. One of the worst worst rated. So, so glad that’s changed now. Definitely be careful on that crossing. Columbus Street again, still busy and we didn’t see any today, but beware of any scams operating on Columbus Street. Sometimes there’s people with a bracelet scam. They’ll try to put a bracelet on you and then they’ll say it’s free but then or they’ll say it’s for charity and try to get you to pay anything up to 20 for a rubber bracelet and it’s not a real charity either. Um so beware of that one. There was a guy doing those sand castle sand sculptures like sculptures of a dog. Nobody knew if it was uh real or not what he was doing. Um so there’s all kind of various scams operating across the road. There is one of the oldest streets called King’s Walk. So let’s let’s go that way. This is Kings Warhook and Kingswalk goes up to the corner house which is it used to be the headquarters for the Nottingham Evening Post. newspaper. And now it’s a bit of an entertainment center. More places to eat around here and some outdoor seating. Gets really busy on a sunny day. And uh this is the corner house building which has many places to eat. There’s a strong smell of curry. This is making me a bit hungry. [Music] These uh route one gets very busy at night. And at the end there, Lily Lang Trees is another very popular bar in the evening. If you’re interested, let me know and I might do a nighttime walk around Nottingham for you. Let me know in the comments if you’d like that. And uh that’s about it for the city center. There’s um cinema in there. So, if you did enjoy this video, it is a bit different to my normal one. So, please uh let me know in the comments. Give it a like and subscribe if you’d like to see more of my content. Um check out my other videos as well. Um I’ve got as well as the ones I mentioned earlier, there’s also the Algav in Portugal. Uh we got an um Italian Tuskanyany villa series. Uh all sorts of stuff. So, thank you for watching and hopefully see you again another time. Bye for now.

  1. I've lived in Nottingham for almost 20 years and you've opened my eyes to the diversity of the city. You are an excellent tour guide: Vic centre etc is known to 99% of the people, but it's the side streets in Hockley that I liked, with all the niche shops. It's sad that so many shops have closed down (Wilkos, Woolworths, the market in Vic Centre) … it's all student flats and places to eat!! The big brands have moved to the retail parks….meaning more cars, more pollution as everyone leaves the centre for the retail parks. People without cars have to take 2 or 3 buses to get near a retail park, but can't buy too much, coz you have to carry it to the nearest bus stop, which is NOT nearby! But apart from that thanks for the guided tour…. It was an eye opener!!
