Well, 159 wild, gravely, fun miles into 500 and my chain snapped with no warning and got caught up in my derailleur in the middle of a pedal stroke. Sheared my derailleur clean off, as you can see. Did my best but couldn’t continue on the zip tied job, with 20,000+ ft and 340 miles left. It tended to flex too much under load and I was in my hardest rear gear. Be safe out there folks! We’ll get em next year.
Andrew Onermaa set the new FKT on the route when he finished yesterday at 39 hours 24 minutes with only 2 hours of total stop time. Absolutely nuts. The 1000 mile guys are still out there. Ugh! That sucks! I saw your HardRock in the Bikepacking.com “rigs of…” feature and was really hoping you’d stomp Heine on his Rene Herse in the South Loop 26-er division!
Throw a NOS early-90’s XT rear mech on there and keep that dad-gravel adventure build alive!
