Hi all! I’m looking to purchase a Lauf Siegla, and I’m finding very difficult to choose between the weekend warrior and the race transmission.
Here are all the specs: https://www.laufcycles.com/ww/product/lauf-seigla#gid://shopify/Product/6886436241470

After adding shipping + taxes. the difference between the two is just under €1k.

Race transmission have carbon wheels and greater climbing capability (10–52T vs 10-46T).
I live in Catalunya and there are quite a lot of climbs, so I’m afraid that 46t would be limiting.

I’m planning to use it for bikepacking and probably to partecipate to events such as tuscany trails or Traka 200.

Is that extra €1k justified? I’m quite new to gravel, coming from road and quite confused.

  1. Personally, I think it’s always good to buy the most bike you can afford. The caveat to that is most everyday people will not see gains between spec levels like a pro rider would.

One thing to be aware of since you said you want to use it for bikepacking; Lauf Seigla’s lack mounting points for rear rack and fork.

I wouldn’t let drivetrain be deciding factor. You can easily rip off 13speed mech and cassette and sell it on secondary market and use the cash to break even with a 12 speed groupset.12 speed group have come down in price.

I would look at the carbon rims. If you were going to upgrade the weekend warrior alloy wheels to carbon might just consider race version. I don’t have experience with the race’s wheelset so I can’t comment if they are good or not.
