Here lies a 1986 Nishiki International that I acquired roughly one month ago via FB marketplace. I practically disassembled every component (which proved to be a great learning experience) and rebuilt it using some components from a 1988 Peugeot Bordeaux, whose frame I had just snapped :(.

The trickiest part of this proved to be retro-fitting a rear storage rack onto the frame considering the lack of eyelets on the frame. To mount it at the bottom, I used some insulated p-clamps (with homemade shims) and zip-ties to prevent any unintentional slipping in the downwards direction, but it must be mentioned that the friction from the rubber is incredibly strong and the p-clamps do not move at all, so the zip-ties are merely precautionary.

The top/front mounting required the bending, cutting, drilling, and reversing of the bracket to allow the rack to sit parallel with the ground.

I’ve ridden this thing (with the rack) hundreds of miles at this point over some not-so-smooth terrain and it hasn’t budged, so I trust it to not fail once I use it has a commuter bike at school. I verily enjoy the feel of the steel frame, as opposed to the aluminum/carbon frame that my Caad10 has. Certainly my favorite bike that I own, even if it’s one of the cheapest.
