Recently bought a diverge expert and it came with the original pathfinder pros that were completely unused (previous owner put road tires on it). I mounted them and used stans standard sealant on them, and noticed that they have been losing air overnight. Not enough to be completely flat but a significant amount. I put the tires under water and noticed that there’s bubbles coming from the sidewall. Shouldn’t the sealant patch these holes? Thanks!

  1. Yes the sealant should have patched it. Did you have enough sealant? and did you turn and Shaked the wheel to let the sealant go everywhere inside? And also just do a bit of road with them sometimes it help like 2/3km around you house.

  2. The sealant should take care of that. Did you spin wheels after putting the sealant in? You could simply go for a ride to distribute the sealant.

  3. In my experience this is pretty common with tubeless and it’s a good sign it’s not going completely flat overnight. The sealant will eventually fill all those micro holes. The more you ride the faster that process will be.

  4. I’ve been through this, even did the same test. Even lain the wheels on one side overnight and the other side the next night.

More sealant, 100km ride, should be fine.

I had the same problem. At one point i filled in way to much sealant and it sealed the holes. After it was all sealed i opened the tires and took out a little bit of sealant.

    Ok little freaky coincidence this.

I too have bought a Diverge Expert Carbon…and this weekend also switched the pathfinders over to Tubeless….and also seeing overnight deflation…

I was about to do the same thing and put it in water.

I am new to all this tubeless stuff. But reading these comments it sounds like I may need to take it first a ride first?

One question for you – did you have rubber o-rings on your tubeless valves? Mine did not come with any. Lots of videos I have watched always show people using an o-ring to prevent leakage.

I just threw away a year old gravel King slick with 1000-1500km  that was doing this on the tread, seam and sidewall since the beginning.    I used muck off and was frequently adding more.

At best, I was getting a week between pumping up.   By the end, last week, it was hours.

I figured it was new old stock when I got it.

  8. It is not to blame tanwalls, think your tire might not be properly seated on the rim. Just re seat the tire pump it properly if enough sealant is inside it should seal the small bubbles.

  9. That’s normal. Add more sealant and ride, the sealant will fill the holes. From what I’ve read and seen tan sidewalks do this more than black.

Normal. I just use a significant amount more sealant than is recommended and keep those wheels rolling in the day/s after seating the tires. They will seal up nicely as the booger layer forms.
