Hi, I’m looking for a bike for my daughter to take to school. She’s been cycling almost everyday for 2 years, she’s also stopped growing so I’d like to get her a good bike. They’re pretty safe where we are in Germany.
I want to get a belt drive for the low maintenance and easier cleaning. The beat value I’ve found seems to be the canyon commuter.
There’s this one (in the image) available used but it looks like it won’t take a basket which it’s more or less essential for the large school bag. Does anyone know if you could fit a basket and if not what options there are to fit one?
Thanks

I think the only good way would be to purchase a rack that mounts to the seat tube. These can’t support a lot of weight, but it should be fine for a school backpack. Ideally she’d just switch to a backpack which can be attached to the bars one side of the fenders, that would look better and be more comfortable to ride, but those backpacks tend to not be extremely fashionable. Canyon seems to have switched to more conventional racks on their new commuters.
And btw, yes belt drives and internally geared hubs are a lot lower in general maintenance, but if they do need to me maintained or replaced it will be more expensive. It’s also harder to check the condition they’re in when buying used, so make sure that either you know the bike hasn’t been ridden a lot, has been maintained well, or it so cheap that it would still be worth it after a bike shop checkup which might cost more than with a conventional drivetrain
