what’s up people welcome back to the channel
my name is Mo thank you for clicking on this video today we are in pulm and this is one of
the city rated among the worst places to live in the UK actually this is the last City I’m
doing in the series of the top 10 worst places to leave in the UK I’m excited you know cuz
it’s been a long time coming it’s been what   a couple of months where I’ve been traveling
to all of these towns and cities across the UK you know having to go see for myself what the
ratings are about um some of the towns have lived up to the ratings um some of them actually have
have been disappointed by the fact that they’ve been rated that low you know so however today I’m
in pot’s mouth and I’m going to go around this city to see what this rating is about hopefully
I can get to speak to some locals and think see what they think about their city so guys let’s
go go let’s explore post moth let’s [Music] go right it looks like a busy busy
busy City you can see loads of people walking around obviously young people
perhaps University students Secondary School students and they seem to have like
efficient boss system as you can see loads of bses running around the city going back
and forth that’s the boss one and it’s Boss s um just trying to find the way way
to the city center to be honest yeah so it’s just straight that way let’s [Music] go and that right there it’s the train station all right so let’s go check out this park called the Victoria Park uh this is
just the way through the park [Music] [Music] right so it is a very big city with loads to
do like there’s loads of shops here you can see Primark just on that side and we’ve got CoStar
got Burger King JD some puddles um H&M hm hm Samuel and this is the this is a city center
really um it’s buzzing you can tell business is booming because you have most of the shops here
like River Islands you know some of the shops you   would find like in the capital city London you
know and also this is poo is also um a beach a beach city is one of the um Seaside towns you have
in the UK um it’s only about an hour 40 minutes or an hour 38 minutes from London so um it’s it’s
also good for a day trip really I feel like people come here for like a day trip cuz really
a lot of things to do here really um looks very developed and I’m yet to see any rough
looking people as well so I mean let’s go let explore got some flower shop
right in the center of the city then I that I had to fill in the form yes so
I have some recreational like sitting spot here as well where people can just sit
down and relax and think this is for kids I guess I almost stripped and also
that’s for like kids and stuff keep exploring I wonder what it would be like during
like rush hour where people are trying to get back get back home from work or ABS going to work
um in the mornings but yeah so far it looks this [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music]   bro how you doing I’m doing good how you what’s
your name I’m good thanks thanks what’s your th Thomas um have you always Leed in pmos sorry
have you always leaved in pouth uh no I just   came to Yi here okay so how long have you been
here for uh this is my fifth year here fifth year yeah I’m doing a masters Masters okay how are you
finding it so far uh just started so it’s not too bad yeah just the basics okay okay um in terms of
this city what would you say um your experience has been living here the last 5 years is it yeah
yeah it’s been good um most of my friends were here as well the last couple of years but they all
graduated last year okay so it’s just me now but um yeah it’s been good with them yeah is this to
leave here then I think so yeah it’s been pretty much safe yeah okay so this town I when the city
has been rated one of the worst worst places to leave in the UK really yeah is that is it is it
your first time ever hearing that uh yeah actually I didn’t think it was that bad no no okay so you
in your opinion it can’t be it can’t be too bad you know no I don’t think it’s the worst no no but
what what what what are the things you do not like about this city uh say once you’ve seen everything
there’s not much to do like there’s only a a little number of things to do yeah so once you’re
done all of them it’s kind of boring after that okay so in terms of obviously you’re renting where
you living right now yeah um in terms of rents like is it affordable is it easy to get a place
if you’re looking for like if you’re house hunting   and stuff I think if you’re an individual I think
it’s really expensive right now I think that’s the case everywhere to be honest so it’s quite hard if
you’re trying to look for a space by yourself but yeah yeah so in terms of job as well is it easy
to get jobs and what kind of jobs would you get   here in this city um I actually have no experience
of that so I’m just looking for some jobs now so just starting to get into that okay Al so about
your friends have got jobs um what what what what would you say what would you would you say their
experience of being like job hting and stuff uh well they wouldn’t they weren’t uh job hunting
here in Portsmouth they W back home all right   okay okay okay thanks for your time though
thank you so much I appreciate that thank you all right I’ve been walking through like
the inner streets and this is what like the   houses look like um I mean it’s is actually
a very very very big city but at least this will just give you an idea of what like the inner
Street and stuff looks like so this is what it is like and you have a lot of work going on around
the city as well but it’s pretty decent it’s clean as well you know so when you’re walking
around the city this is pretty much what you see that see buildings getting walked
on so the local Council are actually working and it’s evidence to see with all this
buildings being renovated and reconstructed and everything looking like in top ship
as well I mean you get a couple puddles   here and there but it’s the time of the
year you know it’s raining and things so yeah but for the most part it looks
like a pretty decent decent City very Multicultural as well I’ve seen a lot
of black people um you know people from like different different ethnic groups and
stuff so it’s good this is what it looks like you get a lot of pubs as well
doed around the town uh the city and let’s go to Sydney house now check out the beach it’s a lot different from Bourn moth where we had sand
well look here we have rocks and [Music] Tes wowow look again don’t mind the weather it’s
a typical British weather always   looking gray and depressing but look lovely
lovely [Applause] [ __ ] it smells funny as well woo look at that oh wow right so we I’m going approaching the pair area
now uh let’s go through here see what’s going on nice good Cuisine oh you got games
you can play how much is that [Music] see how much can you imagine like during summer months
this place going to be crazy busy in summer months you can literally see the hole
of the beach this way look at that ooh beautiful got some nice buildings there
some more walks going on there okay let’s explore all of this are close stuff
cuz obviously it’s not Pig time so yeah can you imagine what happens in the summer
months super super busy deep blue grid British restaurant it’s dead quiet here dead quiet no fishing in the sa
are D you can see the RO wow amazing stuff open weekends and school holidays there you got Jack Sparro Pirate of the Caribbean oh it’s amazing man trust me it’s dope then you have the guns and stuff
you shoot these all close stuff anyways and look at that wow beautiful woo look sit with my guy with a prosthetic legs hey mate how are you doing oh
sat on W Casablanca look I sat on some water oh no not good look at that all Clos stuff everything closed down that that look Batman Superman then there’s are right there wow amazing stuff man trust me let’s keep going let’s explore there we go some heavy waves what the heck is
going [Applause] on yeah that’s the waves look at that look there’s someone swimming right
there just right there can see the orange stuff okay let’s go and there is another ride okay nice [Music] amazing stuff this City’s got a lot
of nice Parks dotted around the whole city like literally everywhere amazing Parks
like that well looked after it’s all over the place it is dope look very nice all right this bit has been closed off for construction okay let’s let’s get out of it right
you okay yeah are you from do you live in this city yeah yeah how long have you lived here for um
my whole life your life 13 years 13 uh how do you find it um well right to be fair I’ve got like
a few obies to do cuz I live by the Sea so I go fishing and stuff and play football that’s pretty
much it okay I was in um what’s this town now um I think it was andova I met this lad he does fishing
as well he said um he helps him releve stress and things like that what does it do for you when you
fish um yeah it’s quite therapeutic and it’s just good to get way okay take mind of things good
good so do you experience any I mean say like during summer months when this when this a to a
city is really busy do you experience any like   say um any chaos say like fighting crimes lots of
it so down by like the P by there there’s loads of people hang around there and stuff like that
and like fight and stuff okay but generally what would you say about this city cuz obviously it’s
been rated as one of the worst places to live in   the UK um what would you you say about that um
well I don’t think it is to be honest I think it’s quite a nice place to live but a lot of like
the younger people in the city are making it bad and like people that go around like carrying
knives and stuff I think is just ridiculous   and just you know okay okay well good thanks
for your time M thanks the enemies are coming Run keep going keep going let’s go go to the top of the hill let’s go yes round a top wow that was a run wow like I run all the way from there up there okay now let’s get a
reward for that hard work look at that wow this is crazy man this is crazy you can literally
just sit there and watch the beach and you see what I’m talking about
the maintenance culture here in this city you can literally see everything
look like they’ve just been freshly done you can see everything is
properly well looked after look at that there’s a smell every time you come
near near this beach there’s that smell I don’t know what it is but smells
strange can also sit there and just watch okay so this used to be like a
defense and it was built built in 1680 I thought so so this is more
like a defense to protect the city see that yeah it looks like it’s just been
newly refubished as well look at that and then you got the Union Jack right
there at the top it’s actually raining you know it’s drizzling but
let’s keep exploring love this adventure and then you have that trout where the enemies would fall and then
they’ll be set on fire or something it reminds me of visiting um York when you’re walking like on the
York walls the same Vibe you get just like that so that’s the south sea castle one in a series of fors constructed
for the King Henry the most ambitious scheme of coastal defense since
Roman times and that’s it right there to protect against the Army
the enemy Army is coming from that way and that’s the castle right
there with the Union Jack at the top wow look at the big ship
right down that way huge ship wow this is insane man this is insane insane work okay let’s keep exploring let’s [Music]
go look it looks like there is an underpass through there you can see the gate right
there and it’s this like I don’t know   tunnel or something that come this way
so it seems like there is an underpath also there might be like a pass
through the walls as well crazy [Music] look I knew it something is there to go [Music] through then the huge cannons here another one there as well let’s go in [Music] there and then the gates are open Royal Army of char welcome to south sea castle south sea
castle is an Asian Monument the fabric of the building is not as safe as that of a modern
structure please take Extra Care during your visit especially if you are bringing young
children with you we hope that you enjoy your visit look at that’s literally empty
and then you’ve got the Asian Bell and that’s the B right there bit rusted as
well let’s see if we can go to the top oh it’s locked so you can’t you can’t
go to the top from there no access for unauthorized persons amazing stuff’ got
the huge cannons here as well wow it’s amazing how they manag to preserve a
lot of these structures and buildings cuz they’ve been here for years for donkey years and they are
pretty much still intact amazing man right so it’s starting to get really dark um and it’s only what
1,700 it’s about 5:00 um but there’s something I must say one thing that is amazing about this city
is that I mean I’ve been to a few cities and I’ve never seen anywhere where people are so obsessed
or so into fitness as um this this city a lot of people you can see them literally just running
around the city you know trying to keep feed you   know I I’m I’m just amazed they’re literally into
the fitness look let’s go see what’s going on in there oh wow okay what go buing Al that’s dope golden Hors shoe that’s another clearance pair right [Music] there okay we keep exploring oh that’s a bit [Music] noisy that [Music] that bridge is so sturdy very very sturdy look we’re going past a tunnel it’s dark wow look at that La stuck stuck in here yeah we outside we outside all right guys
I’m about to leave posos now um I do not agree with the rating since I’ve been in this city I’ve
walked around I’ve explored I’ve spoken to locals some of them did not want to speak on camera and
that’s fine but in my opinion I think that those ratings are rubbish to be honest um so that’s
it for this series of worst places to leave in the UK I’ve been to all 10 of them and it’s all
on my channel I’ve made a playlist which you can click just right there and so you can see those
other places I’ve been to like slow and over all the shot all of these places so just click on
this link here and you can watch all of those but yeah thank you for watching this video let

opinion to what I’ve said um from what I’ve shown in this video please let us know in the

  2. Really, 3rd worst city behind Luton? You're having jokes with us, I live here so please don't put us with Luton, a coastal town with lots to do and a regeneration program in place

  3. Portsmouth is not a nice place to live theres knife crime here just lately. Also if you had visited the social housing areas it is very run down and there is a lot of homelessness here . They would rather house thousands of students because it brings in money for the city than re house the homeless . And if your on the waiting list to be rehoused you would be waiting 10 years or more. The council decided to have two lanes coming into portsmouth and put a bus lane so it causes a huge amount of traffic. And the eye sore you see coming into the city. The only decent thing about this city is the trains to london and the isle of wight ferry and ferries to france . There is also more crime with under 16 year olds. But there is youth places they can go to which hopefully helps them to stay away from crime . My parents live here and i cant wait to leave when i visit them .

  4. 20 yrs I have worked and lived In Portsmouth now retired the last 5 yrs its rapidly gone down hill, aggressive beggars on the streets violent crime on the increase lack of money spent where it’s needed.

  5. I dont know what survey that was but portsmouth(pompey) has consistently been voted top 10 best places to live overall many times.
I suppose it depends on who does the survey and what their criteria/agenda is.

  6. That's the smell of sewage being dumped in our sea daily , I've lived here all my life it's not the worse place to live however they pay more attention to the seaside and uni buildings then anything else here, it needs revamping in places 😊

  7. Hi, For a European visiting Portsmouth, what places would you not recommend going to?

Is it safe to visit the D-Day museum area and walk up the coast to get to the city or is it better to take a taxi?

  8. These views are very subjective. It's the video maker's personal view, and people shouldn't put much faith in it. Like anywhere else in UK at present, Portsmouth has its good and bad points. I happen to live here, and I don't think it's this bad at all.

  9. I live in Portsmouth myself. While there are many positives, particularly around the edge of the island that Pompey is on, the video doesn't really portray just how bad Commercial Road has become. The main shopping area is just full of low quality fast food restaurants and large boarded up shops. The middle of the island is full of council estates that haven't been well maintained. They are run down and this is where you start to uncover the problems. Renting is stupidly expensive and house prices are high. Wages however, are not. It's an area where the rich are very rich but the poorer members of society really do struggle…. However, the local residents really are friendly and very kind to each other.

  10. Southsea and Milton decent, town centre blighted by migrants and students lack of investment….stick to Southsea seafront, Rose Gardens Canoe Lake…..up to the Cathedral….Old Portsmouth, a pint in The Pembroke and head home…. avoid North End, Commercial Road, Sommerstown…..I love Portsmouth only for Southsea….

  11. The City centre has suffered with the big shops closing. Gunwharf is busier, and being an outlet has security. Pompey is still a good place to live. Plenty of history and good train and bus links, being an island it's pretty self contained. I think we are still the most densely populated in the UK.outside London.

  12. I lived in Portsmouth, and like every city, it has its problems. I wouldn't say it's the worst town in the UK, but it definitely has Hastings vibes—a once-thriving city now struggling for industry and purpose.

You get a lot of locals moaning about students, but without them, this city would be financially cooked. Commercial Road and Gunwharf have little to offer in terms of actual shopping, but if you’ve traveled enough in your life (or stacked enough shelves for a job), you'll realize that every city and town is filled with the same stuff. You could probably boil consumer options down to about ten categories of useless junk.

Historically, though, it is rich, and personally, I found the locals very nice. Some might disagree, but you’re always going to have village idiots wherever you go, so I don’t judge a place based on those twits.

As for value in a place to live—rent-wise, unfortunately, I will always disagree with the cost. I fully understand that rent is rising everywhere, but based on my experience, the last time I lived in a house share (which obviously varies), you’re looking at around £500-£600 PCM for a complete dive with mold, sharing with 4-6 other strangers. If you want something half-decent, expect to pay £700+ PCM, but you’ll still be sharing with about the same number of people. When I had my own flat there it only cost around £850 but that's not including Gangster tax opps I mean Council Tax and overcharged electric and gas hahaha.

Entertainment- Lack of it but like anywhere in the world with the right people you only need very little and create you own good times.

City Running & Councils – My opinion on them is ONLY my opinion, but I mostly see them as a waste of money and believe they should be publicly audited. We could definitely cut those costs down—but that’s not just an issue in one town.

Local Transport – It’s actually pretty good, except during major events or football games.

Parking – Worse than trying to get on a train during rush hour in mainland China.

A Plus Side? – If you can’t be bothered with any of that, you can just walk. Portsmouth is flat and easy to get around on foot.

  13. I live in Portsmouth, and Southsea Castle that you visited, was the place where Henry the eighth stood and watched his flag ship the Mary Rose sink off spit head.
I think a video about the historic ships in the dockyard would be good if you visit Portsmouth again.
The Mary Rose was raised from the solent in October 1982.

  14. Thank you trying to distract myself from my daughter birthday tomorrow.. grieving its horrid when they are alive somewhere…. THANK YOU….. THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO DO FILM.. I didnt want to violate anyone while showing to those who needed to see.. amazing video.. can I ask what camera and what editing software you use… I had such a horrid time in town I dont want to go into again.. not with my boys anyway

  15. its very late but I will see this pop up again.. and check in.. and when not so tired.. got to wake up tomorrow and go through another day… and just as they say.. back up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile smile smile.. I always found going for walks safe.. its gossip I find hard to deal with when your a local… and thats anywhere… community is not like how others say its is..

  16. I love it.. thats my and yes moment .. sun rise and sun set… however fire side… I just want my own garden and space now I can by the sea… starting to lose faith in people and thats not a nice place to be in.. so thank you for making this video and showing portsmouth and how people feel..

  17. many dont like me here because I am not what they call racist….. for me.. its about good and bad intentions whoever the person is…

  18. Pompey.
Footie, wedgewood rooms, fish n chips, cheese n amnesia.
    Fawcett inn( excuse me)
House parties, decks , fantasy caps, walls are sweating.
    Loved it

  19. Total D U M P, All secondhand shops, a few real crappy pubs, weird locals, their football team sucks, even the Germans looked at it and said "Nine, Nine, Nine" and some woman said, "Police, Ambulance or Fire Brigade" and that caused real confusion!!!

  20. It’s a great city, so much history, loads to do, very funny, friendly people! a few bad areas n people , as with all cities, it’s the streets, too small n no parking lol

  21. Portsmouth certainly is NOT one of the worst places to live in England. Like any large town , there are less pleasant areas and streets Buckland and Fratton have small streets cluttered with parked cars because they were built before anybody had cars but there is so much else going for the place with history. There art galleries, museums, clubs, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinaker Tower, the Historic Dockyard with HMS Warrior and HMS Victory and The Mary Rose , Southsea Castle , two Cathedrals and of course our fine seafront promenade ( with a Fun Fair at one end and South Parade Pier further along) and Southsea Common where many big events are held such as the Victorious Festival and from where the Sailing Races in the Solent can be watched, not to mention the lovely countryside surrounding the city. The magnificent view from Portsdown Hill of Langstone Harbour, Portchester Castle, and the Isle of Wight. . These dreary videos so often concentrate on the negative and run down side but Portsmouth is not all like that at all. Charles Dickens and I.K. Brunel were born here and you can get ferries ( and uniquely a Hovercraft service ) to the IoW and to France and Spain from here too. It is an easy train or coach ride to London for a day out . Southampton and the New Forest are not far away for a day out too. There are fine walks round the coast and on the South Downs. . An easy unusually mild because we re sheltered from the North by Portsdown Hill and from the South by the Isle of Wight. I would not live anywhere else

  22. It's a great place to live. I've been to many far worse places in the UK. Thanks for checking it out – that survey is a load of crap.
