Looking to pick up my first road bike, I want to use it to go around boston (probably 4 miles or so on a given day) and longer fitness rides on weekends. Budget is about $500, I’m 6’0, and this is a $300 60cm 2010 Stevens road bike. Guidance advice recommendations etc are welcome, I’m just trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can before I purchase!

60cm is too big for you. 56 or 58 is probably better.
I would recommend spare at least half of the price you paid in “upgrades”. You will probably need to change some parts, I would say the chain probably, bar tapes maybe, some brake cables depending on the situation of these ones, probably the tires and inner tubes, brake pads… and the list can go on.
I would get it but I think it may be too big for you. Test it and if possible get a fit or opinion on fit. Research quick what makes a good fit. You probably want a 56 maybe 58 cm frame.
