The 21st and final chapter of a book that has captivated us, keeping us on the edge of our seats throughout July. The 112th edition of the Tour de France is about to reach its epilogue. Tadej Pogacar and his team are enjoying a fourth victory on the roads of the Tour de France. Arms extended to the Slovenian. He’s favorably surrounded by Nils Politt, Tim Wellens, Marc Soler, Jonathan Narváez, Adam Yates, and the Frenchman, Pavel Sivakov. Pavel Sivakov, already, alongside Tadej Pogacar during his third victory. The rest of the peloton is far, far behind the Slovenian, who has had no competition throughout the first 20 stages. Hey, let’s have some fun. Come on, the little update. Watch out, because Ben Thomas Vercher was a disaster in Kassel. At least there were no problems. And Matis Le Berre is coming. He didn’t understand Matis Le Berre’s humor. What’s he doing here? He hid the photo. He wanted a photo of them both. Thierry Gouvenou has just given us information. We’re going to freeze the times on the third crossing of the line. That is to say, the last three laps, Tadej Pogacar, when we’ve completed the first three so-called traditional loops of the Champs-Élysées, the circuit of a little less than seven kilometers, we’ll therefore have 45 kilometers from the finish, the times will be frozen. We’ll have to cover the distance, but Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard can finish 20 minutes behind the leaders; they’ll be within the winner’s time. Often, the Yellow Jersey team took the lead; the first crossing of the line was the first attacks. But now, there’s already a small gap. So, who will dare to launch the first attacks? For now, no one. Jonathan Milan is coming to clean things up. They’re starting in first position. Yes, since the line is after the… Further, okay. Yes, it’s a little higher. Time for us. It’s there. Abramsen, he doesn’t understand Milan. He looks at him: Why? Why? Yes, he broke my ranking. Because otherwise, it would have been Jonathan Milan, Beniam Guirma and Anthony Thurgis again. There’s Abrahamsen who has caused discord in my ranking. On the other hand, we have one of the punctures. We had O’Connor, Stohrer, Romain Grégoire. And we relay with Lipowitz, who has taken a small lead. He really wanted to make sure Onley didn’t attack him. No, but it’s good, he’s racing too, Florian Lipowitz. It’s true that he’s a damn offensive rider. And in 100 meters now, Tadej Pogacar will win his fourth Tour de France. He’s at the front of the peloton, flanked by his teammates. This official, Tadej Pogacar, has just won his fourth Tour de France. The times are frozen. The only downside is that he still has to finish the race. Yes. The breakaway has been caught. Lipowit, Simons, in the ranks. The peloton has accelerated. We’re going to discover this new circuit concocted by ASO for the 21st stage of this Tour de France. A slight change of direction. Here we are, let’s go. Julian Alaphilippe and the gang are particularly well placed in second position, behind Marco Haller, we’ve responded to the crowd. Look at this crowd. 1.1km, 5.9% average. The small cobblestones and the fervor. Pogacar, he’s there. Seventh position. Ready to fire. We’ll obviously watch the peloton; the rear of the peloton is just a few steps behind. I think we’re going to have some breaks, some riders who are going to get back up. There are already some breaks beyond 40th place. It’s going up very quickly. Milan is fighting, it’s still there. We take the point, the first attack, it’s Julian Alaphilippe who fires. Arnaud De Lie in the wheel. Victor Campenaerts who follows with Van Aert, he had announced it, the Tudors, with the hard work of the teammates De Lie completely recovered. 400 meters of climbing still to go. Alaphilippe insists. What’s certain is that Arnaud De Lie is much better than yesterday. Where he dragged his misery, the first attacker on this hill of Montmartre is Julian Alaphilippe. Arnaud De Lie, expected by Grignard, to finish the stage on time to be able to do this last stage to be able to be an actor in Montmartre. At the back, it’s over for Ivan Roméo after his heavy fall. Alaphilippe insists, De Lie follows, and it’s Tadej Pogacar who responds behind. The punchers are celebrating. And watch out for the descent. I hope there won’t be any traces of moisture on the descent. There, it’s one by one, I have 40 kilometers left. Van Aert, Pogacar. Pogacar, sorry, is marking himself. A little counterattack from Tadej up there? Julian, when he turns around, he’ll say: Okay, OK. The selective sorting has started. Respect. Respect Tadej Pogacar. He knows he won the tour. As we were saying, he likes to play and here he continues to play. He takes a small point for the climber. Pogacar is in the race. The sprinters are hanging on. We saw the Eritrean, Biniam Girmay, it’s wet. It’s wet. Watch out. But some for, there aren’t many, but here, on this newspaper. It’s okay. With this small deposit also coming from the trees and which could make the road even more It’s Ballérini who hung on there, just in front of Julian Alaphilippe De Lie who is making the effort. Kaden Groves also to try to get back in. Back to Place de la Concorde. We’re going to go up the Champs-Élysées. The rain, on the other hand, there. Yes, the first drops of rain on the cameras and all over that extremely threatening sky in the background. And that could change everything. Look, there are umbrellas starting to open in the VIP areas. Bastien Tronchon still has energy in stage 21. He’s anticipating. Two passes through Montmartre. 27,400 kilometers to go. The Green Jersey group losing time. And the rain continuing to fall on Paris and making this end of the stage, this end of the Tour de France, uncertain. I was looking at the top 10 in the general classification, only two were in play. Obviously, it was the Yellow Jersey, Tadej Pogacar and Kevin Vauquelin, seventh. The other riders in the top 10 preferred not to take any risks, it seems. Come on, the Moulin Rouge. And we’re going back. A second dose of Montmartre. Whoah! Campenaert is tackling it in the lead. Jorgenson, we’re back in with Tadej Pogacar, who’s leading the race, yellow jersey on his shoulders. Guirmay has moved up to try to beat the sprinters facing the puncher. And the crowd is going crazy. Screaming. Second pass up the Butte Montmartre, we’re looking for Van Aert next to Jorgenson, but he’s in a bad position, Wout van Aert has to move up. We accelerate with Tadej Pogacar. Second pass. Stuck in the wheel, Ballerini, Matteo Jorgenson reacts. Kevin Vauquelin is fighting just behind and we’re really accelerating now for the yellow jersey. We’re even uphill. We feel like we’re on eggshells. 400 meters, he wants to move into the lead. Pogacar wants to make another run. Obviously, the crowd has been there since early this morning, they’re enjoying having the yellow jersey in the rain. Accelerate on the first climb, accelerate on the second climb and it does damage behind. We’re exploding with Nelson Powless , it’s difficult, we’re hanging on. Breaks. Van Aert is coming back, there are only five, six, seven left who can keep up. Except he can, but Mahoric has completely exploded. Trentin, too, has recovered well from yesterday’s stage with Ballerini. There’s Clément Ruso who is just behind. He must be two or three seconds behind, the Groupama FDJ rider. The last 200 meters, we’ll call the roll at the top, but there won’t be many. We return to the very small street. Watch out, the small right after, we’ll pass in front of the Sacré Cœur. Watch out, it’s very tricky there. That’s it, we’ve done the hardest part. A small point for Pogacar. Guaranteed without a weighted jersey. We’re counting the numbers. Tadej Pogacar, Ballerini, the Visma double, Jorgenson, Van Aert and Matteo Trentin only, only a small group at the summit. The bell rings at the last crossing of the line, 16.800 km to go for a prestigious victory. The icing on the cake for Tadej Pogacar. The cake for the rest of his breakaway companions. A little over 10 km, Matteo Jorgenson attacks, immediately, ready to chase Mahoric, the big maneuvers begin. We’ll play by the law of numbers. Because we might want to arrive at the bottom of the climb with a few meters’ lead over a very active Tadej Pogacar. That could also disrupt this group. The pursuers are 35 seconds behind. Jorgenson in the lead. Mahoric has responded. Ballerini, watch out, he’s not going to ask himself any questions. Come on, from the bottom to the top, he’s going to go full throttle. And this time, Van Aert is in the wheel, he’s not going to get caught out. Come on, it’s from the bottom to the top. He’s going to make everyone crack. Van Aert is holding his breath, Mahoric just behind. Good luck, gentlemen, see you at the top. Watch out, the restart, there’s another big right-hand bend, it’s slippery. And only after that, the 10% sections, another little right for the riders and he’ll be able to go. Oh dear, it’s going fast. Oh, it’s going fast. Van Aert at the rev limiter too. Pogacar continues to accelerate. The world screams around. It’s breaking for Mahoric , it’s over for the Slovenian. Tentin in trouble. Pogacar and Balerini are lagging behind, dragging their heels out; it’s hard to hang on. For now, Van Aert is putting up a fight. He’s back on the pedals. He’s countering him. He’s accelerating, Van Aert. He’s finishing this Tour de France well. Pogacar is hanging on. Ballerini is putting up a fight, but it’s too hard for the Italian. Van Aert is the lord. Yes, he even put a few lengths past Tadej Pogacar to the rescue. He’s making Pogacar crack. A rare image, Pogacar cracking at the pedals. There he is, the plan. And Van Aert is accelerating, he’s about to take the lead. 200 meters to go. Incredible, this image. The best downhillers, maybe Tadej Pogacar. Can he win solo? Pogacar is still there, threatening. But there’s been a break. No risk, no risk of relegation either. Neither for him, nor for Pogacar. Huge counter to Van Aert, what a climb from the Belgian. He must not have understood. Pogacar. And we’re going to come up against Tadej Pogacar, maybe even with Mahoric Jorgenson and Ballerini. He’s giving up, Pogacar. He won’t be able to come up. And it smells good for Van Aert, the visma that will finish in the most beautiful way. And Van Aert, after 2021, can go and win another victory on the Champs. It’s not working together. We’re digging ourselves in. We felt it, he blew that victory away. It’s over. He wanted victory on the Champs-Élysées more than, for example, at La Plagne. It’s quite surprising. He pulled out all the stops to win the final stage on the Champs-Élysées, even though he’d almost won the race on mountain stages like La Plagne. He won’t win it. He was beaten by a stronger man, Pogacar today. Come on, last straight. The Champs-Élysées for him. Alone, he’ll be able to enjoy the most beautiful avenue in the world. He privatized it. He privatized it with a physical feat. Getting Tadej Pogacar out of the wheel. He can smile, or Wout Van Aert can breathe. It’s there, it’s at the end. Yes, sir. The 51st victory of his career. All the suffering that comes back, the wounds that have healed him, the criticism he’s endured. Today, he was strong. He was very, very strong, Wout Van Aert to the point of making Tadej Pogacar crack. He turns around, he’ll be alone, alone in the photo. In tears, Van Aert, the emotions. Yes, sir. A second victory on the Champs-Élysées. This one, he savors, he enjoys. He’s great, Van Aert bravo, bravo Wout Van Aert bravo! Bravo Wout Van Aert and the signature, standing on the pedals. You had to wait until the 20th day, Jacky. Come on, for second place, a battle between Ballérini and Mahoric , and it’s going to be Ballérini, the fastest of this quartet, who will go for second place with some regrets because victory was not far away. But Van Aert was very strong. Behind, it’s Tadej Pogacar who raises his arm because yes, he’s the big, big winner of the day, this fourth Tour de France won. Jorgenson comes to take fifth place. Matteo Trentin, sixth, who also cracked on the last climb of the Butte Montmartre.
