Before joining our Bike and Barge Cruise on the Merlijn we spent a couple of nights in Saarburg, Germany. The first day we wandered around in the rain before hiding in a cake cafe. I went out for a jog the following day and this time I took my Gopro.

Hello viewer. We’re in Sarberg in the middle left of Germany, not far from Luxembourg. see my previous video. So, we’re going to take a oneshot jog around Sarberg and uh I’ll show you some of the highlights that we found. Let’s go. prepared to be amazed. Heat. So Sab Sarborg Sar is a sleepy little village on the edge of a cliff with a waterfall which descends cascades down into the Moselle River. Let’s go have a look at the waterfall. It’s quite pretty. I don’t believe it. It’s turned off. How do they do that? You think they turn the waterfall off at night? I’ll show you a photo of what that looked like yesterday. It was fantastic. Not so much today. Obviously, we still got some water going down. But the big waterfall turned off for the night. So one of the most amazing things about the waterfall, okay, the waterfall has been there for hundred thousands of years. uh hundreds and hundreds of years ago the place was settled and they built the water wheels which is quite nice. And in it was all the normal stuff, corn, oil and milling and things. And then in the uh 1898 they installed a turbine not a turbine a dynamo and they even made a hydroelectric station. So for year ever since then Sabber has made it his own electricity from their uh electric turbine inside that big building. Let’s continue. I just realized I didn’t turn my GI on just a moment. Okay, garden turned on. the Moselle. This is wine country here. Fantastic vines still work on on the side of a hill. Oh, did I mention it was just after 6:00 in the morning, which is why there’s very few people around. Love the mist coming off the hill. atmospheric. So this is an old defensive site, fort chat, wall, all that stuff. Some have reached legs. This Oh, you can maybe see the next hill over there. We’ll try to go up there. We didn’t go up there yesterday, so I have no idea what there is. So, we’ll have a look up there later on. It’s July. It’s early July. And all day yesterday, it was cloudy and rainy. At least today it’s not raining yet. We took a look at the church yesterday, but there’s a big sign that says, “Beware of the dog.” A tongue pund. Beware of the cat. Hello. There he goes. So the railway station, as you would expect, is on the other side of the Moselle river. We had to come here yesterday to buy our tickets because tomorrow we head out. Today we head out by train and I thought it was a particularly nice view. See the enormous garden wall. That’s the flood defenses from the days when the miselle expands as to stop everyone’s house being flooded. You can see the rather serious gate. And this was the other this was the other view I quite liked. Looks like something out of uh Harry Potter. So, I did want to look at this big steep hill yesterday, but it was really raining and slippery. So, I didn’t mind going up, but it’s fancy coming down. Let’s go have a look. This is the joy of oneshot videos. We might go all the way to the top and there might be nothing there. Or they might be a pay wall or something. Or there might be a beautiful view. It’s got like Oh, certainly a hill. That looks hopeful. S burnt castle. Heat. Heat. a building site. I should recover from my 164 heart rate. Boy, you look at the view. Oh wow. Seriously, do you think we can go up that? Looks quite hopeful, isn’t it? Wow. Well, I didn’t expect that the Moselle Sarberg. This this time in the morning there’s nobody here and it’s actually open. Oh, don’t you hate it? People have probably put started putting padlocks on the railings. Undying love. Undying. Knock the railing down. The Moselle. Oh, I hope they’ve got some nice flood defenses down there if that river rises. This is not the side of the river to be on. I see the new houses are building on the uh higher on that bank, which you’d assume will be a lot safer. Ah, the official telescope. The only way from here is down. I think I should have brought a headlight for this. It’s not pretty easy. Here we go. At least you get it to speed it up. I have to do it in real time. That wasn’t so easy, but very satisfying. Anywhere else in the world, you have to buy a ticket or it would be closed or 6:00 in the morning or something. And if you’re on holiday, there’s a restaurant. So the only way here from here is down. Let’s have one more view of the of the Oh, look at this. This Oh, it’s full of people’s money. What if that used to go down to the river? There we go. A beautifully remaining tower. So, only way from here is down. I’ll go down the road. Oh, look. Maybe there’s something up there. the path down the other side, which I’m not going to take, but as I can see a car in the car park, I’m pretty convinced this will join up with the road. Now, if I was training, I would do that hill three or four times. Hill repeats, very good for running. But I’m not training because I hurt my foot as I’m sure you’ll remember from my Iron Man Morca video. Uh here’s a link. Now before we go back to Sbo, there’s one other thing I wanted to show you which is down here. And this is weird. I wonder what that sign means. Big fire engine needed. Look, it’s the house of the wicked witch of the west. Isn’t that fantastic? But that wasn’t what I was going to show you. This is what I was going to show you. That’s a cable car. disappears up the mountain and I don’t think it’s a ski resort. Now, if I should find Here we go. Somewhere there was a really neat photo. this thing here. There we go. Some marketing people must have come along and said, “You’ve got a great hill. Why don’t we make a tobogen down the hill?” And to get people up the hill, we’ll sell you a cable car. A voila, a cable car. And somewhere there’s a tobogen to hurtle down the hill. Isn’t that cool? Anyhow, I wonder if the the vineyard workers use it to get to work in the morning. Let’s head back to Star. I found an advert in the hills of the cable car. Looks like the original design, I guess. Ah, so there’s the tunnel we went through to go see the river. And over here is a foot path, which sort of looked interesting, but I didn’t explore it yesterday cuz it was raining. So, this is another one of those. Maybe it’s something, maybe not. It’s a sign. Let’s go have a look, shall we? Ah, so we must be here. That’s the tunnel. That’s the bridge. That’s the toll. It’s the roundabout room here. And that’s the cable car and somewhere. I wonder if that’s the tobogen. That could be it up there. But let’s have a little look up here. Maybe we could go to that road and see what the view is like. Isn’t this civilized? Come home to a real fire. Honestly, it is hard to resist such a beautiful set of stairs. 171 heart rate. Ah, into our position. We’re even higher than the watchtowwer. Look, little tiny grapes. Millions and millions of them soon to be in a wine near you. I’m going to have to go back. Going to run out of battery and stuff. That’s apart from heart rate. Let’s be technical. So now we know where that goes. That’s why I got off the road. Viewers, down we go. So, now we’re back in Sarberg and it’s just started to rain. Did I mention it’s about 12° centigrade? Not sure when is the time to come here to be honest. It being the middle of July. Anyhow, few more things to show you. If you do come to Sarberg and you need a quick lunch, this cafe is by far the best place. Fantastic cakes, really nice people, nice coffee. Highly recommend it. Cafe Hackenburg. Can’t beat it. And here we are back at the start in the rain. Well, I hope you I hope you enjoyed my little video, our little jogger around town. I hope you learned something about Sar. I hope you like I hope you tick the like button. I hope you subscribe to my channel. I’ve done quite a few of these sort of oneshot, try not to edit it too much at all videos. I did the uh a few days ago I did Luxembourg, the city, not the country in one shot. And uh I’ve done the Monaco Grand Prix circuit three times. I mean in the same couple of days but three different times of day which makes it quite interesting. So we’ll just have a quick look around here. Oh, there’s a there’s a picture here. Look, this is the uh turbine stuff that they have in the building behind me for making electricity instead of cooking corn. So, the waterfall is still not working. I will uh come back a little bit later on once the waterfall is working or I’ll show you some pictures from yesterday. Anyhow, thank you for watching. Like, subscribe, all that good stuff and I shall see you in the next one. Bye-bye.
