I’m not done with either tire yet… but I’ve done them both on THE most important test course: the Cat 2 / Medium gravel one.
These are two of the most requested tires (they both come up in comments on every test I post) I’ve done so very happy to have some results here.
These are both 700 x 48 and the RH is their Standard casing… which interestingly is thinner than the non HD Thundero. Both done on 25 mm Reserve rims.
I tested these by Chung Method (virtual elevation) testing outside. This gives us an actual CRR (coefficient, rolling resistance) which is then easy to convert to a wattage at a set speed as shown here.
Timed rolldowns are a simpler alternative to more involved Chung testing by the way, but the error range is often quite high…many people have questions about margin of error, which is certainly an important detail.
Full results soon.

Wow, RH’s aura of super ultra mega supple fast tires is getting a proper beating right there… 😅
Good to see, those exact Thunderos arrived in the mail for me the other day.
How do you decide on tyre pressure?
I wonder if there is a big difference between the normal Thunderos and the HD version. I‘m more tempted to get the HD for better puncture resistance.
interesting stuff, thanks for sharing.
I’d be curious to see if there was any difference between the 2.25 and 2.1 thunder burts. Bicyclestation did a test video where they set a faster time with the wider burts on a short gravel stretch.
