Hey there! 👋

After a long break, I’ve finally gotten back into cycling! I picked up a Merida CX 100 cross bike and am having a blast riding it. The only downside is that I live in a flat area, so I mostly use just the last 3 or 4 gears of my cassette. I could push myself even more when I hit the road, but my front chainring limits me.

I’m considering upgrading from a 40T to a 46 or 48T chainring, but I'm having trouble finding something that’s compatible.
I thought maybe upgrade to a different style of cranks with a different chainring? I’d love to hear your thoughts and expertise on any suitable options.

Here’s what I currently have:
Shifters: SRAM Apex 1, 11-speed
Derailleurs: SRAM Apex 1, 11-speed
Chainset: FSA Vero Pro; 40 teeth
Cassette: Sunrace CSMS8; 11-42 teeth; 11-speed
Bottom Bracket: FSA TH-7420ST, Cartridge Bearing
Chain: KMC X11-1

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I really appreciate any help you can provide. 😊

  1. You can probably just buy a bigger chainring.
I have a 44 on my gravel bike.
Keep in mind some frames don’t have clearance for massive 1x chainrings.

  2. Seems like getting a bigger ring for the Vero Pro 120 BCD cranks is quite a PITA. Probably just go straight for the cranke replacement option and get something more futureproof. (or try asking in r/bikewrench — more bike magicians there compared to this sub)
