Looking to get into the second hand market rather than by new. Currently search FB marketplace for a steal and came across this.
Description:
Selling a 52cm Specialized Tarmac e5 S-Works.
The bike has a 1x drivetrain (Apex shifters, Rival crank) and the ratios are 40 x 11-32 (10 speed). The bike is fitted with Continental tires.
The bike has been professionally inspected, cleaned, and is ready to hit the road.
Thoughts? Is it a good deal?

Too expensive. This is probably a 600 dollar bike. Also, that 1x setup makes no sense to me, unless you live somewhere super flat?
In general, it’s best to avoid Specialized on the used market IMO. You’re much more likely to find a deal on a less popular brand.
They stripped any good parts from it. What year? Maybe 2006, so 20 years old. Apex, a $20 seatpost and saddle. Kysrium Elite wheels. It’s not a very impressive build. This bike is maybe $300-350.
I’d rather have a newer Allez with Tiagra.

The front wheel is on backward.
For this price, no. For half the price, that 1x drivetrain would be OK on a gravel bike. But wait! There’s rim brakes so you’re never gonna fit gravel tires on this one. I am not exactly sure what it would be best to do with this bike, but “buy it” wouldn’t be on my list.
