Celine show by Michael Rider. It’s Celine? He’s the new artistic director. I’ve been waiting for this new collection, so I’m
looking forward to Michael Rider’s new collection. Park Bo-Gum, Naomi Watts, Taehyung. Today, Michael Rider invited
me to watch this new 2026 show. Last time Park Bo-Gum and Taehyung came to a Celine
fashion show in Paris, this is what happened. Actually this is Michael Rider’s first show,
so we are excited and looking forward to it. Don’t worry, it’s not the destruction
of the Celine house as we know it. It’s about building, continuity,
and of course, new stuff. By now, brands know they can’t afford to
alienate clients every time they change designer. The 3 billion euros a year
blockbuster that is Celine. I want to go back in the dressing room

I do! I’ve known Michael for about 20 years. He’s worked so hard for this. He’s been so selective about what he’s done
with his career and I’m so proud of him. The singer Alanis Morissette is
first row, she spent fortunes here, as an avid collector of the Celine
era that was designed by Phoebe Philo from 2008 to 2018. I’m a philophile, off the charts.
Are you? Yes. I really want to see what Michael’s
doing, having been under Phoebe for so long. It’s a big mystery, so
I’m very anticipating. The French actor Paul Kircher

who opened that category. It’s very chic, it’s very elegant, I feel like it’s something you want to

for a directional look. Celine has this very special
place on the fashion checkmate: both quite bourgeois and quite daring. A daring bourgeois, a rich provocateur. I thought the show was fresh, but also celebratory of a
lot of things that I know that he celebrated from the past. It was a great mix. Checkered tights for him. Skinny pants! Oh la la! The first row was in a
panic because of the skinny pants! Are skinny jeans back?

I’m not ready for them. Yes, yes, yes.
Well, if you feel it, you gotta wear it. I mean great for the ones that
can wear them. I can’t wear them! I can’t do it. Large sunglasses and the new Celine
washed denim trousers with the crease. The crease on the bourgeois’s jeans
whose housekeeper is so diligent. Jeans with a crease, overzealous. Same one for guys. The tie is cut
clean, no need to tuck it into pants. Celine does denim since 1974. Sweeping dress with the bustier made of multiple scarves
for Apolline Rocco-Fohrer, hidden behind sunglasses. XXL polos are a trend
we like for Summer 2026. Sara Caballero, an exercise in beige. If Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton is not on
the mood board, they can cut off one of my fingers! Diane Keaton loves a man’s suit and has this spirit of
layering that gives so much personality to her looks. A kleptomaniac Kristen Wiig is entranced! Oh my gosh, the bags,
the little white boots. I’m loving all the little lace-up boots
and the trenches and the big…yes. I’m just gonna name
everything that was in the show. Banger of the collection, the
caramel leather motorcycle racing suit. With visible shoulder pads and
pleasurable zips in case of overheating. Double belt. Suddenly, the zip on the
bag is smiling, screaming “Newness!” The kingpin’s red jacket. Michael Rider is playing with the Celine color palette,
almost color-blocking archetypes of the wardrobe. A mini scarf or mini tie,
hanging from the collar. The return of Binx Walton! Hello
Binx! In an Ivy League Celine outfit. A fur coat and a wicker basket. In a monochrome white color scheme. Celinophile Alanis Morissette
holding her checkbook. I got so excited as soon as the
first pieces came out, I thought “Oh, we’re home, we’re
good, we are off to the races.” Just Michael’s sensibility of
colors, layering and nuance. So, you’re back at the store.
Oh, yes! Make it slightly too large,
make it too turquoise, and voilà! Or make it gray. This sweater might make millions
for Celine. I see a kaching product! A Celine trench with a
slightly too low placed belt. This Parisian house was built
on beige coats for decades. Note how the polo opens
widely on the virginal turtleneck. Yilan Hua with a huge belt buckle
that looks a bit like a gold bullion. Her bag is the Nino East West, the Nino bag designed under
Hedi Slimane’s rule but made bigger. What were the moments you
screamed during the show? Screaming? For me, it’s the moment with all
the super-high tights and the little sweater. One statement sleeve. His arm has as much keys
as the Pont des Arts in Paris. The metallic decorations include
keys, coins, and medallions. A leather patchwork is often seen in a first
collection as a stamp of craftsmanship, a demonstration of what the
designer can do and will do. It’s not a look, it’s a scenario. He’s a Sloane Ranger, a geek/hunter. The daffodils on his shirt are the right
mistake. A symphony of khaki colors. And Paf! Daffodils on the dress worn
by Agel Akol! Clashed with polka dots! Cut your ties. It’s
how it’s done at Celine. What will you wear from the collection? I think, I like the loose fit pants
and suits. I love it. The basic suit. Lulu Tenney embodying
Audrey Hepburn and a hangover. Mica Arganaraz seems effortless and
in place, not tortured, not boring either. This is Bas Van Geertruy, absolute
newcomer and exclusive for this show. The casting is by Samuel Ellis Scheinman.
There’s a tradition of Celine discovering models. Davin Benson is also exclusive. Note how the Triumph logo on her bag
is three or four times smaller than usual. A sequined fantasy of a dress but no nonsense, she
wears a crocheted cotton cardigan on top of it. A dress made of Celine ribbons, Michael Rider found one ribbon
in the archive and lost his mind. She wears 25 different rings. Tuxed jacket over glittery trousers/dress. All the evening dresses are worn with flat shoes as
an homage to the Parisienne who rarely wear stilettos. French elegance! If you wear high heels it’s with
denim trousers, but nothing else. As a brooch: thistle and wheat in gold
on the heart, where medals are placed. Worn on a tough-looking perfecto. This dress might be here to let us remember
that Michael Rider has Balenciaga on his resume, working there under Nicolas Ghesquière’s
artistic direction before going to Celine. He knows about Balenciaga’s big dresses and
their simplicity that is anything but simple. The ceremonial garment for an opera premiere.
Opening onto richly embroidered denim. We finally see the turtleneck
and it has a landscape motif on it. Wow, first of all, I watched
so many really fun shows, and there were some of my favorite looks, and I
can’t wait to try them on as soon as possible, if they’re the right size, and I can’t
wait to wear them and shoot something. Maty Fall Diba as the
bourgeoise lady of Rue Vivienne. This is Kai Schreiber, the daughter of Liev
Schieber and Naomi Watts, who is in attendance. Don’t scream but she was born in 2008. My favorite, an apparition: the French
will recognize the character of Duduche, the likable hero from the comic
strips by Cabu, the brilliant cartoonist. Duduche, the friendly fellow, too tall,
too chevelu, too cool, too idealistic. Duduche! The Celine
bike lock as a second belt. He’s about to ride his bike that
is parked on the rue Vivienne. Last look. Dahli Barink, she’s an
exclusive model for Celine this season. The thistle and wheat, symbols of abundance
and prosperity, strength and resistance. The Renewal, the Celine saga, continues! I thought it was incredible. The colors,
the bangles, the suiting. The tweeds. Beautiful, really. It’s funny because there are a lot of
different things, there are some kind of dandy, then there are guys who play a bit with the hook.
There are a lot of different styles. It was crazy. I loved the show.
I was blown away. What were your thoughts
when you saw him take a bow? I was mad at him because I was like
it’s too quick, but that’s very Michael. It reminds me of how
a Canadian would do it. Just really, you know, he’s very clear
for me. I relate to his temperament. We’re here to express and make art. We’re not necessarily here to have
extroverted sort of… It’s in there somewhere. How are you? I’m fine!
How was the show? Oh, you lost me. That
was all the French I knew. I knew, “Oui, ça va!”, “comme ci,
comme ça”, “magnfique”, “impossible”. Impossible is the best.
Impossible. If you ask me what I think about
the Celine show: it’s impossible. Voila, this was my Celine report, the first
show by Michael Rider for Spring-Summer 2026.
