So I picked this bike up from gumtree for next to nothing. The Frame and forks are in good condition but the drive train was rusted to fuck.
I want to change the groupset to the Shimano M6100 which has a single chainring. I've worked on bikes before but usually replacing stuff with like for like. I've never put an entirely different drivetrain on a bike before.
I've heard something about the chainline but I don't really understand what I need to check before going ahead and buying what I need.
If anyone can help I'd be very appreciative.

you first need to check if you have a hyperglide (hg) or freehub rear wheel. IF you have a freehub rear you are cooked on 1x.
