[Music] Kar France you’ll be enchanted by this fairy tale Town even before your feet hit its cobblestone streets charm oozes from the Romantic canals of Little Venice as well as the mix of French Gothic Renaissance and half Timber Germanic inspired buildings we tell you everything you need to know for an epic visit including prices for what we [Music] paid I’m Judy and I’m Kevin welcome back to F gen and Marie where we share our lives this fulltime Travelers and the connections we make along the way all right after a train that got cancelled and another one that was delayed an hour and 40 minutes we finally made it to Kar unfortunately we had hoped to have half of a day and it’s 9:00 at night now so it’s kind of one of those because we weren’t going to be here for very long right it’s about a 20 minute walk from the train station to the Oldtown we could have taken a taxi but we’d have missed cutting through the park du dear and enjoying the brightly lit Pavilion full of tango dancers so it’s a bit after 9:00 in the evening and normally we would have probably had an early dinner and we’d be tucked away for the night but this has actually been a really cool experience to arrive in the evening and find that there’s Tango and dancing and uh a bunch of people in the park tonight that I didn’t expect I wouldn’t have realized that in this small little town there be such a lively evening uh lifestyle it’s pretty cool Park night life who knew and it looks like singles no problem they’re just having a fun time up there dancing all right can come back next time and sign up for dance lessons he can dance I cannot yes you can good job Kar Kar is nestled in the heart of Northeastern France just a Stones Throw from the borders of Germany and Switzerland it’s flanked by the vog mountains and the ryin river making it the perfect gateway to the picturesque Alla wine route being part of this culturally and geographically unique area means that although French is the primary language spoken here there’s also the German dialect of alashan and of course as a tourist town There’s plenty of English spoken here too so we’re here in picturesque Kar France and it is so much more than what we anticipated it to be not at all uncrowded this is supposed to be not the bad time but it’s pretty crowded already yes there it’s so Charming it’s combination of French and German and great food everywhere and picturesque uh shops everywhere you look it was very very hot when we were here in mid August and like most European cities it was fairly crowded but that’s nothing compared to the Christmas Market season which begins in late November and runs through the end of December up to 2 million people visit during the festival season season we recommend visiting during the shoulder season of March to May or again in September to early November when prices are lower the weather is milder and there are fewer [Music] crowds I it was just the menu double right it was yeah it’s called menu double one hot drink bread butter jam Quant and one glass of orange juice a little bit of bread for us to start the day thank God we got the panar L to break things up what a mistake delicious mistake but a mistake yes we had gone a really long time without butter anywhere you know I don’t I was surprised that we missed it so we haven’t really had butter like this or bread at all like this but we’re in Paris or we’re we’re in France so of course went in France you need to eat like the French we’ll be walking like the French too so hopefully that will be an offset yeah we walk from morning till night nonstop yeah we W Kart’s not that big for this am of bread and if this is the only food we eat for three days I’m afraid it’s not we got a dinner plan tonight you want an outdoor seating [Music] Get No Lack of foods and treats around this [Music] place and where we’re dining tonight with our YouTube Friends monster cheese originates from this region AA cordon blue ail with monster cheese Spa which on their menu is referred to as alashan pasta Kevin had chicken with reasing mushroom sauce and spatula Rebecca had to try tarte Lambe also known as flusha which is a cross between pizza and a Savory tart typically eaten by rolling it up and eating it without utensils [Music] I’m very surprised with how much Trump Loy is on the various buildings uh it adds so much color and depth and interest but it’s still surprising to see so much of it here I don’t know if we have time for this sorry [Music] Judy don’t forget the local wines that pair perfectly here particularly white wines like reasing gerse deer Pino gree and muscot there also are red wines primarily made from Pino Noir an easy and convenient place for wine tasting is the family run Tasting Room at doen Martin jund located right in the heart of colar on request you can even tour their Wine sellers which were over a century old for tastings they have wine and cheese pairings Chocolate and Wine pairings and more starting at 12E old per person and if you love the idea of being part of a grape Harvest they have slots available from Monday through Friday between the end of August to the beginning of October for โฌ30 per person and afterward you can enjoy the pressing and tasting of four wines enjoy a 30-minute boat ride in the canals here in Little Venice while you can buy a ticket on the boat for โฌ8 per person don’t be disappointed by waiting until the last minute reservations can be made online until the day before departure but they will book up in peak season you pay onsite at the departure area at the s pi bridge on Boulevard s Pierre we’ll put a link in the description [Music] below if you have time for only one Museum in Kar The Muse un Linden should be high on your list it’s housed in a beautiful former 13th century Dominican Convent which means the museum itself is a work of art steeped in history the isenheim ultra piece is considered one of the most important works of art in France it hosts a wide range of art from the Middle Ages to the present day there’s also the Muse du which is a Toy Museum spanning three floors and which houses over 1,000 toys from antique toys to contemporary Muse boli is dedicated to the work of alashan sculptor Frederick boli who is best known for Designing the Statue of Liberty the museum is located in the house where the artist was born we’re standing in front of the Cathedral of kar which is technically known as St Martin’s church it’s referred to as Cathedral sometimes because of its Grand size and impressive architecture but it’s actually a Collegiate Church however our Airbnb host had mentioned that people just call it the cathedral it was built between 1235 and 1365 and it’s like Got Fabulous Gothic architecture love the Gils they’re really pretty impressive little flying buttresses going on there all the good stuff and it’s free to enter and walk around [Music] our costs in colar were fairly minimal our Airbnb for two nights was $193 66 or $96.89 per night our host was a wealth of information so consider staying here if you come we ate a couple of breakfast at lazu diuse for $21.2 or $10 64 per person our lovely viewers Rebecca and Rick picked up the tab for our dinner at Shay hanzi our train from Leon to colar was $143 51 or $71.7 per person our total for two nights was $ 35844 or $179 22 per person so our overall cost was $961 per person per day we could have used at least another day here in col but least we didn’t have that opportunity we’re headed now back to the train station for a couple of days in Paris we hope you’ve enjoyed this episode if you haven’t already subscribed we’d love for you to do that and the best compliment that you can give to us is to recommend our videos to our your friends and family and check out p.com where you can see articles more information about us and our community Forum until next time until next time

Beautiful area! Canโt wait to visit!
We absolutely loved meeting you guys in person and sharing some quality time getting to know you better and so thankful we were able to coordinate a meet up. Prior to coming to Colmar, my husband had never even heard of the place and was along for the ride because I told him we were going there. He was so incredibly surprised at just how lovely and affordable it was (even in the height of the tourist season). We did do the Choco Story and it was fabulous!!! We not only ate a lot of chocolate, we also learned so much about the the process of creating chocolate treats from the time they are growing all the way up to the moment you pop them in your mouth. We did another similar experience in Switzerland, but I have to say the one in Colmar was exceptional and much more in-depth. Highly recommend for anyone traveling to Colmar in the future. My husband is โall inโ for visiting Colmar again. Next time for more than 2 nights – maybe 3 full days to enjoy everything that Colmar has to offer.
Cute little town, I have heard of several Parisian tourists wanting to come there! โฅ
Outstanding Video As Usual ๐ซ๐ท ๐ซ๐ท ๐ซ๐ท Thanks ๐ ๐
Colmar is a lovely little town. In addition to everything you covered in your video, there is a lot if interesting WWII history in the town and surrounding countryside. My Dad was in that area during the war, so it was of particular interest to me. Another great video. Thanks!
So many great things to see and suprises.
Cool town, fun episode. Whatโs with all the short trips lately? I understand when your daughter visited, but now that sheโs gone, itโs quite uncharacteristic of you?
Thanks! Judy, I purchased some clothing from Wool& after reviewing your website, received my items, loved them and ordered another piece. Wanted to say thank you for taking the time to share with us.
Thanks for the very informative video. It is interesting how the various regions in France are so completely different from each other. Lyon, where we are now is totally different from Avignon, where we are going next, in culture, food, and architecture. Colmar seems very different from either of them and Northern France, like Brittany, sounds completely different. It seems like a really interesting country to explore.
Another GREAT video ๐ฅฐ I am a small travel channel and this video really inspires me to up my game and make better quality videos โบ๏ธ Much love โค๏ธ
Very nice video! Subscribed! I love finding newer travel channels with quality videos. I get to learn about new places for us to visit, and I usually pick up some video editing tips for my brand new channel as well.
We hiked Alsace region and stayed a few days in Colmar. So delightful end of May. Adored the architecture.
What a shame you had so little time there and that you had to be there in the heat! I went two years ago in December as I promised myself that one year I would celebrate my birthday and Christmas in Colmar. It was AMAZING! Contrary to common belief it wasnโt too crowded, the atmosphere was stunning and I stayed in the cute set little apartment in old town. Shame you missed exploring all, the neighbouring villages that compete each year for the title of most picturesque French village! I urge you to go back in December and stay longer!! Cheers from Australia
Perfect timing I am planning a trip to France for next year and just decided on a few days in Colmar. Thanks!
Not as fam of the zoom to accommodate the letterbox format like at 5:12 to accommodate the titles? Or chapter settings? Love your content!
Great video Judy & Kevin! We were just there a couple of months ago and you truly captured the charm and the 10,000 of your closest friends that pack in there. We started early in the morning and it was completely empty. A couple hour later and kaboom! packed. We still loved it and it was a great day trip from our base in Strasbourg. On another note, we are here in Broughty Ferry for 2.5 months, our daughter has started her PhD. We can see why you two loved it so much. We bought bikes and are riding all over the place. We also signed up for Rover and are sitting peoples dogs to keep things interesting. Looking forward to the next one!
I spent a couple days in nearby Strasbourg and it has a similar look with heavy German influences, good food, sight seeing and bicycling. Really fun! I wouldnโt recommend Kehl the neighboring German town but fun to ride a bike over to Germany.
good information.
Great video. Very informative. I enjoyed traveling along with you!
So it took you guys 20 minutes to walk from the main station to the city center of Colmar? Thank you for the video ๐
Hi Judy and Kevin, Can you share the link for the Colmar AirBnB? Thanks!
I visited Colmar two months ago,it's just like a fairytaleโค
