After stopping MTB riding in 2018 (no real reason) and only riding motorcycles, I’m getting back into MTB riding, and I’ve been doing a bunch of research and bought one of these brand new, old stock, still in the box 2022 Scott 940 Scale carbon hardtails. The frame really spoke to me on these and I don’t like the redesign of the newer frames as much. So anyway I wanted to ask the experts with experience in here, on this bike, it has a rockshox Judy fork with a 42mm offset and 100mm of travel. It has a 2-position remote lockout setup. I found a deal on Jenson for a new 2024 RockShox SID SL select + with a 44mm offset and a 110mm travel, and 3-position (locked, pedal, open) feature designed for a 3 position switch (still working on finding a 3 position switch) and what I want to know is based on the geometry how do you think the bike will handle with the upgraded fork compared to stock, is this a good move or not, and should I ride the bike with the Judy first or just go immediately with the SID select + when assembling the bike, do you ride on this fork also, and should I get a Scott rideloc 3 position switch or a RockShox 3 position switch? (The bike is still half assembled still in the box, all photos were collected from across the internet to show what the bike looks like).
Also, I’m 6’5” 250lbs (113kg), I have a slightly longer than normal torso/arms and slightly shorter than normal legs for someone who is 6’5” and this Scott Scale 940 is an XL frame, but if there’s any changes you would look at making based upon that info to handlebars, stem, seat, crank arms, etc, please let me know in the comments as well!
Thanks guys & gals!

You more than likely won’t be able to tell the difference. The 10m increase in travel will be the larger impact, but you should be fine with 10mm of extra travel. I put a 51mm offset fork on a bike that came with a 44mm offset and could barely tell the difference.
I’d get your tires (and PSI), grips, stem and bars, saddle and pedals sorted out and see how much you enjoy your return to riding before getting a new (albeit much better) fork or making any other upgrades. Have fun.
I run mine with a 140mm Lyrik with no issues, it did feel slightly more “uphill” but that’s about it. Same height longer legs, 21 2xl Scale. Jelly you got thru axle.
Wheels, fork aren’t all that durable in my experience for someone of our size.
SRAM SX cassettes didn’t last long for me, but you can cheat by getting the chain swapped for an xo1. It’ll stretch slower and rust less, saving big money
I swapped my partners hardtail from an 80mm Judy to a 100mm SID Ultimate. She can’t tell the diff and I can’t ride it hard enough to feel the geometry change. However, the improved damping is a large difference that’s noticeable all the time.
At your height and especially w a long torso, I wouldn’t be surprised if you need a longer stem. You’ll know if your hands hurt from too much pressure. I have a 100mm on my XC bike. The steering response is diff but not worse. 110 and 120 were too long for me.
