Did the quick link come in the package? It looks like a 6-8 speed link on a 10 speed chain. Match the quick link speed with the chain.

There is either a missing plate for that master link, and/or you used a master link for a single speed chain on a multi-speed chain.

  3. No, that’s not correct. If you actually managed to make it snap together properly, then the link is for a wider chain type. Don’t ride that.

  4. That’s no good. Was this a pin? It doesn’t look like a quick link and I’m curious how both the front and back are separating from the other links like that.

Anyhow. I’d replace that link with a quick link. If that isn’t an option, remove the chain from the front chain ring to relieve the pressure on the chain and seat both pins with a chain tool. The links should still have free lateral play when you are done, but there shouldn’t be a gap like that and the pins should reach fully through to the back side of the chain.

That’s not right…I would have to look much mre closely, to see how the chain fits together…

A common chain in the past had a clip that put the chain together…it slid along 2 round grooves on the fixing pins and seated on one pin and cliped to the other, in the pin grooves, over a chain plate..with a push of a flat screwdriver tip.

That was on a 1/2″×1/8 chain, commonly used on coaster brake type bikes, BMX and fixies.

Maybe that is what you have..with the clip missing…the plate would just fall off without the clip, because it’s not pressed in place, it’s held together, in place by the chain clip.
