Day five of bike packing the perimeter of Britain fundraising for Movember and it was a day of calamity. Didn’t start very well. There was about three or four different road closures from where I was staying in Scarra and it just meant that I got diverted onto these quite frankly beautiful gravel trails but ultimately a bit slower and I probably wasn’t exactly on the right tire for that kind of thing. had more of a road tire on which they were pretty good still to be fair but it just meant a few punches. I then had some very very punchy climbs around Whippy Bay that kind of part of the country which just were very legapping and then more road closures this time on this nice bridge but I managed to sort of sneak around it which was definitely a bonus but I was just getting a bit frustrated shall we say. Then heading down towards Sunderland and Newcastle. Got a bit more rain appearing now. It wasn’t too heavy at this point, but it was definitely starting to come. But I did get to catch up with Benny. He met me in a Gregs at New in Sunderland, which was definitely a good point to meet. But then the rain got heavier and heavier as the day went on. Just a bit of bad luck to be totally honest with you. Definitely got soaked. The idea then was to come off the route a bit and head into Newcastle, find a bike shop where I could get some fresh tires, some fresh pads, and basically just get the bike back up and running in a good way. It meant I didn’t quite get the distance that I wanted to do initially today. But it meant I also managed to solve some problems I was having on the bike. So, swings and roundabouts, there’s some positives to come from it. I think my plan tomorrow is going to be to aim for Edinburgh, but we’ll see how it goes. Thank you for watching. See you for the next one. [Music]

  1. Ooh good that you managed to avoid Newport Bridge closure or the “lovely bridge” as you called it. Keep smashing it round the north coast. Such a worthy cause!
