Hi everyone, I'm looking for a bib recommendation for my dad. His birthday is approaching, and I want to gift him a new bib. I see that on this sub, Assos, Rapha, and Castelli are mentioned a lot. I was considering something from one of those brands, but of course, I would like some input from this sub.

Some background info: He mostly rides road, but he also rides trail (tropical climate). He used to train as a triathlete, but developed arthritis in his hip from wear and tear over running for so many years, so now he just cycles. I know the right padding could make a huge difference, and he sometimes complains his bib's chamois isn't always comfortable.

As a reference, I checked the tag of one of his bibs and found that one of the ones he uses is Van Rysel RCR 4.

Preferably, I would like it to be under $200. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!!

My favorite bibs are Ale, most comfortable, best pad, longest wearing. Their American reps are helpful with answering questions. I also like Nalini.

  2. It’s usually a bit risky buying cycle clothes for others, but it seems like it could be a good idea here, since doesn’t seem to have tried much yet and he’s wearing mid -range shorts so a slightly better quality pad might help.

All of you brands are worth trying, personally I highly rate the Castelli shorts with the X2 pad, but if he hasn’t tried much else yet then any other higher end pad may work for him, it might just be a case of buying something and seeing how it goes.

Brand is one thing but get the size information too, and make sure who ever you buy it from has a good exchange policy in case he needs to size up or down.
