First longish ride on my new bike, and second ride overall. Hence, definitely have to get used to biking. I wore a padded short and could feel it after 20 miles. Worked up a decent sweat (76C, 83% humidity). Drank some Gatorade during a few stops, and was tired towards the end. Wondering if I should have eaten more during the ride (breakfast was two toasts, coffee, and a banana). Any guidance?

Also, I was trying to push the pace and maybe should just focus on riding for longer durations vs. pace. Actually, I don’t know if 15 mph average is okay/fast for beginners, or abysmally slow (and I just thought it felt fast 😂😂). Thoughts? Similar concept was my go to goal when I started running. Given my running mileage (Avg. 40 miles/week at ~8’40”” minute/mile), legs should be in good shape, but realize quads etc will get worked out more. Let’s see what feels sore tomorrow 😀.

Whole body needs to adjust over time (e.g. getting used to wearing the helmet, not strangling the bars, changing hand positions, mixing up looking up/down so that neck doesn’t get strained).

The bike is pretty sophisticated already (Domane SL7) and want to just focus on getting used to biking before I upgrade tires (post wearing out the stock ones it came with).

Need to find some bikers and local ride club to get guidance, but appreciate anything you can share. Thanks a lot in advance for taking the time!

15mph is pretty good especially just starting out. You’ll just work your way up for longer distances. That’s a cardio thing not a speed thing.

You will feel better if you move to clipless pedals. It helps a lot with power transfer. Your foot stays put. It helps a lot.

The SL7 is already one hell of a bike and ‘upgrading it’ will be marginal gains at best imo.
