I’ve kept my old Prophet for years and just had it fixed up for my son to take to college, but am having second thoughts about sending him with such a (potentially) expensive bike. Can anyone give me a realistic estimate of its value?

It’s so out dated that there’s no real value to it. A modern geometry entry level hardtail is lighter and more capable. It’s only worth what some niche nerd might be willing to pay to add it to their collection of old bikes that hang on the wall.
looks to be about 20 years old? perhaps a few hundred. it isn’t particularly desirable at this point but it definitely has a lot of upside over all the other shit bikes that will be stolen right next to this one
