Most likely the derailleur is misaligned or cable tension is off. Look up the service manual for your derailleur and it should walk you through how set it up and adjust it

It is, but it is not set up properly it’ll drag the chain across the teeth of the cassette.

Sounds like the dead zone in your hub! Totally normal for hubs with less engagement. Basically your hub (probably) has a pawl system on a ratchet. If there’s 6 ratchets, for example, then your hub will have 60 degrees of engagement. This means you’d need to rotate your cranks 60 degrees before the pawls catch on the next ramp. [Here’s a view of what I’m talking about](https://c02.purpledshub.com/uploads/sites/39/2022/01/Freehub-pawls-9546ad0.jpg)! 60 degrees is quite extreme and your hub is likely something like 15 or even a little less, which is still noticeable while pedaling and causes a sort of “thunk” sound from the built up momentum in your hub engaging all of a sudden on the next ramp. If this bothers you a lot, consider getting a rear wheel with an i9 hydra, onyx vesper, or other high engagement hub. Be warned, though, these tend to be $$$$
