Denmark & Sweden / 2025

This journey with my son Jackson began in Stege, Denmark with a visit to my dear old friend Niels Aanderson, celebrating his 50th year of running the Holmberg Theater! Nadir Foreman, another colleague from our old theater days touring with the Colorado Caravan in the 1970s, joined us from Belgium.

Jackson and I then began our VBT Cycling Adventure in Copenhagen. After visiting Hamlet’s Elsinore Castle, we rode through much of Sweden, ending in Stockholm where we explored the city and walked in the footsteps of our Jewish ancestors.

Oh, what? I know all the small streets. I sleep in my sleeping room 10 m from the absis of this church. Bonjour. I’m Nader Farman. Roger Neils and I all worked together to ring theater in Colorado back in the 1970s. I traveled from my home in Belgium to Copenhagen for our adventure in Denmark. After a Zoom video with so many of our dear old theater friends all over the world, I say, “Oh, [Music] Almost all churches have uh this model uh ships hanging from the ceiling because we have we are an old sea nation. only mock at the mad king who had started out to conquer God and had been himself conquered by a single little ganette. [Music] [Music] How cool that you know. Yeah. Yeah. based on Hamlet is unique among Shakespeare’s plays in that due to his travel schedule there are some who theorize he wrote the play alone especially because of its brooding insular quality Hamlet has always felt to me different from other Shakespeare plays to make school free for everyone for example let me think on this women here in6001 can only go to school up until the 7th grade that is no Good. My name is Susie. I’m a guide, cycling guide for BBT in Sweden, Denmark. We are smiling, caring, a bit quiet, but good at listening. And we love the stories that you tell. And the most important thing that Americans need to know about Sweden is if you haven’t been there, just do it. [Music] This park is named uh Noran Gardens, the gardens of Norway. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Hello. Hello. [Music] One thing uh we are a friendly, honest people, reliable. You can rely on the sweets. Our walking tour took us past the Nobel Museum and the bank where the Stockholm syndrome was coined. We were amazed by the art galleries integrated into the subways. This one teaching the lessons from Chernobyl [Music] [Music] [Music] A big reason behind this trip was to walk in the footsteps of my greatgrandparents. parents Ida and Nathan who married in Stockholm after fleeing the pgrams of Russia. This year celebrated 250 years of seemetic freedom in Sweden. Raul Wallenberg was Schindler’s equivalent. The road was winding, dangerous, and full of obstacles when Jews were trying to escape from the murderers. The road was straight when Jews were deported to death. [Music]
