I was born and spent my formative years in Wolverhampton. Thanks for this video, it saves my curiosity in going back. WHAT a decline. It's turned into a proper dump ghost town. I heard it was terrible but didn't believe it would be bad as this. It used to be a vibrant town, and certainly does not deserve city status. It's really awful now, but I still have happy memories of what it used to be like in my more youthful days. So sad to see it like this!
1:13 Not quite right. The first traffic lights were in central London somewhere but were operated manually. Wolverhampton's traffic lights were the first to be controlled automatically.
Thats my daily walk from work along Dudley st,was such a great town some years ago could do all the xmas shoppong without the need to visit Merry hill or Birmingham,and during the 90 the nightlife was very good with little trouble at all.
My god it's changed. Where are the toilets in the middle of queen square? What happened to all the pubs. Tavern, Garrick, Gondolier. Where is the golden egg? Where is all the traffic in Queens square, Dudley and Victoria street? Who moved the man on the oss? Not very busy and mainly non whites walking round. I bet the odeon, gaumont and ABC cinemas have gone. Is the George and Valhalla pubs still there? It's been maybe 40 years since I grew up in Wolves ?
