In this video, I took a close look at 5 of the worst areas to live in Leicester in the UK.

These areas are the most deprived, poverty hit, and dangerous due to high crime stats, and that’s how I classified them as less desirable areas to live.

I welcome all comments, thoughts, and feedback from anyone with experience of these areas – or if you just have some to say, please go ahead!

welcome to UK explored where we visit places so that you don’t have to and in this video I’m going to take a deep dive into five of the most deprived dangerous and ultimately the worst areas to live in the city of Leicester so I’m going to kick off with an area that might be the worst place to live in Leicester and that’s St Matthews located just outside of the City Center St Matthews has long been one of the most deprived areas in Leicester and it’s even been the most income deprived neighborhood in the whole of England according to Wikipedia pulling the demographic data from 2021 it’s listed as majority white area but walking around St Matthews it’s hard to believe to be honest anyway it goes without saying that it’s couns loaned housing for the most part and apparently it was last redeveloped in the 1950s walking around I mean visually it’s one of the most depressing looking Estates I’ve been to as you can see it’s pretty much a network of these four-story flats for the most part it looks like some of the flats have been split into small dwellings or hmos and due to the area being so deprived it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of these flats are over occupied what I will say however is that despite being so poor St Matthews isn’t among the most dangerous areas in Leicester those areas are still to come so stay tuned St Matthews has a pretty tame crime rate on paper of around 92 crimes per 1,000 residents according to Crime rate. co.uk that said there are still plenty of recent like wild headlines that would make you think twice about hanging around around here after dark there have been some huge drug bursts over the years which of course isn’t a surprise as drugs and poverty go hand inand there have been a number of violent assaults in broad daylight many of which are recent neighborly disputes often turn nasty which again isn’t a surprise in such a densely populated area and there have been murders and shootings in the area which are hard to escape in large cities especially leester but it’s something to be aware of as you can probably imagine the housing stock that’s available is very affordable in St Matthews in fact it’s the cheapest area to buy property in Leicester with an average home selling for around 141,000 but it’s more of a dodgy landlord’s Paradise than it is to buy up a family home let’s be [Music] honest another of the worst areas to live in Leicester is a town called bronstone located south of the city center and crossing the notorious narur road bronstone is one of the most dangerous areas in Leicester and certainly not somewhere you want to hang around at the wrong times it has a huge crime rate on paper of 195 which is about 2 and a half times the UK average to put that into perspective and the seriousness of a lot of the crimes is no joke here while researching the area online I found loads of comments from locals saying it’s a drug hot spot and there gang activity as well at plenty of locals saying it’s known to be one of Lester’s roughest areas I also spoke with some locals in and around the town center while I was there and they also told me the same the demographic data shows bronstone is a predominant white area again and I don’t know the details of the gang beefs but there are plenty of news reports to back up that it’s a real problem talking about news some of the headlines and stories are even too shocking to go into detail to be honest I want to keep this PG but what I can say is that there’s a gun crime in the area which you’d expect with all the gang violence kidnappings murder it all happens and they train them young as kids as young as 15 have been stealing high-end cars the crazy thing is that for all the wild reports I read after spending a couple of hours in bronstone as it’s such a large area it didn’t look that bad on the surface sure it’s got some rundown places there were some boarded up houses and of course a sofa or two on the street but I’ve seen a lot worse maybe I wasn’t able to find the worst spots let me know if that’s the case if you know better than I do but I spent a lot of time looking around trust me housing isn’t cheap in bronstone either the average house price over the last year according to right move was in the 244,000 range I think that shows you the kind of diversity there is covering such a large area I have to mention that there are some nice spots in Brownstone too Brownstone Park is huge and wellmaintained and I hang out with some guys fishing there for a while so if you’re watching this I appreciate that guys but make no mistake bronstone is a dangerous area another area that’s an easy choice for this list is West coasts as it’s statistically the most dangerous area in Leicester West coats is a pretty large area just Southwest of the city center it has some Notorious housing Estates and is also home to a lot of students as it’s close to demord University so it’s a melting part for antisocial Behavior the crime rate in West coats is 239 which is Bonkers really and the area has long been identified as one of the top five areas for knife crime in leester a good chunk of the problem seem to revolve around this housing estate which comprises of these blocks of social housing Flats I spoke to a couple of locals while I was there and they told me that this area is known for drug dealing and it’s somewhere that they personally wouldn’t hang out at night it definitely smelled of weed when I was there I could tell you that much it also looks more like a prison than Flats right with these small Windows loads of fixed shutters and it has some weird noises coming out of it if anyone knows more about this estate or better still if you’ve lived there I’d love to hear about it and anyway if you do run into problems at least there’s a small cop shop just around the corner looking at West coat as a whole there’s an Eclectic mix of housing the student side near the university looks a world away from that first estate it’s pretty well maintained and there are some decent shops and there are signs telling people to behave but let’s be honest unless you’re a student this is the last place you want to live a common theme with a lot of the worst areas in Leicester is narra Road and this road also runs through West coats this is the road where everything that shouldn’t happen happens it’s the red light district after dark drug bur are super common azer assaults and a Wei delivery is just a QR code away wherever you live I’m sure you’re familiar with these signs right loads of vape shops World Foods takeaways you know what goes on here like the other areas I’ve covered there are plenty of shocking headlines coming out of West Coast murders cannabis grows teenagers running wild and I read about a bunch of pretty sick cases that give you nightmares to read about to be honest West coat is no joke I’ll say that due to the number of large properties been split into student accommodation in West coats housing isn’t cheap either according to right move the average house price for the last year was in the 35,000 [Music] range [Music] next on the list we have alstone which is a suburb of Leicester located Southwest of the city center alstone is one of the most deprived areas in Leicester and also has a pretty lofty crime rate of 168 so it’s a no-brainer that it’s one of the less desirable places to live visually elstone looks as bad as it is on paper it still has a lot of the cream colored post-war housing that a lot of The Big C is still will have that should have been demolished a long time ago in my opinion there’s also some prefab housing and allocated parks and there are a couple of newer apartment blocks the demographic data shows alstone is a white area again for the most part and while it is income deprived I read some stories about the community coming together and doing some cool stuff which is always great to hear here’s the shopping district I mean what more would you want than a spa a bar and some places to eat right I did notice a lot more evidence of Street drinking and Drug taking around alstone over the other areas I went to I’m not sure if this is because there’s more of it or because the council isn’t doing as good a job of cleaning it up but I saw a lot of discarded bottles and drug paraphernalia I was reading a load of news reports to get an idea of what kind of crime stories are going on in elstone and while there were a bunch of the usual stuff like you know murders and serious assaults drug dealers and huge drug busts Etc the most alarming thing was the number of reports of predators assaulting people in the fields and the nature reserves there I can’t even show the headlines on YouTube to be honest it’s that bad but I hope whoever is prowling around out there is caught soon I’ll say that much I’m not too sure about the available housing situation here but apparently house prices in the area is still in the 234,000 range and finally we have an area called New Found pool and I’m also going to mention the neighboring f as these are two more areas that are severely troubled by crime and poverty depending how the areas are grouped in stats some stats have Newan pool in the top five most crime ridden areas when it’s grouped with f and Crim rate. co.uk has Newan pool on its own listed as the seventh most dangerous area in Leicester with a crime rate of 171 which is still a pretty high crime rate new F pool was the only area where I had people approach me and ask why I was filming and they didn’t seem too pleased about it but I managed to talk my way out of any confrontations it feels like Ye Old leester in parts right with the straight roads old star housing the tight alleys connecting the roads I’ll State the obvious as well that it’s a pretty untidy area and there were more bulky items dumped here than any of the other areas I went to on the day this company seems like they’re doing all right though don’t they there have been some interesting news stories come out of this area such as this woman having a long standoff with the police huge cannabis Groves getting busted and I smelled weed while walking around and there have been some crazy murders here unfortunately house prices for the area reflect the problems the area faces and also where it’s located average house prices in the last year were just 169,000 and no offense intended to anyone living here but if I were to choose where I was going to live in Leicester I can’t think of one reason why I would choose new fan Paul or F so there you have it these were statistically the five worst areas to live in Leicester if you have any experience of these areas or just any comments in general I’d love to hear them and feel free to suggest any other towns or cities that you’d like me to round at the worst areas for cheers

  1. I had an awesome day out in Leicester, as you can probably see from the video. Thanks for watching, all comments and feedback is welcome, I read and obsess over every comment – so be nice! 😁 I'll be out and about soon, feel free to recommend some more of the UK's finest destinations. Cheers!

  2. Who is the condescending asshole. He deliberately maxed out the negative aspects which are to be found anywhere in Britain now apart from the leafey middle class Blairite enclaves. Braunstone is an architectural post- war ( WW1 that is) miracle btw.

  3. In the 80's Newfoundpool used to be a really good area. Teachers and lecturers used to live there. Now it's turned into a 3rd World slum, inhabited by 3rd World natives. "Diversity" is our strength.

  4. Firstly you are pronouncing some towns wrong. Secondly St Matthews is the most demanding place to live now as its safe to live to my knowledge. Many years ago in the 90's St Matthews was not a safe area at all.

  5. Leicester has areas of povery and depravation, but warm, friendly people in all parts. Your video is 11 mins of clickbait, focusing on the negatives with barely a mention of anything positive, of which there is plenty.

  6. Highfield as never been a bad place and st Matthews ant shit new parks is the worse more killings there and anywere in Leicester and allways as been

  7. You have highlighted a very small part of Westcotes. Lived her for 16 years and yes it has its problems but on the whole it's not as bad as you portray. The drugs issue isn't cannabis. Why did you show Norfolk Street and say Narborough road.
The Flats you showed were in Eyres Monsell.

  8. Brought up in Leicester since 97. Undoubtedly has its problems, but not really that bad. Always well connected.

All trains stop at Leicester 💁🏻

  9. Leicester is a real mix you have places like this and then within 2 miles 6bedroom detached houses with pools where the roads are all nice and new with even the smallest potholes being filled. It’s like the councils have given up
