Note, I was recommended a gravel bike because to get to the treats in my area I needed to be able to ride on both paved and unpaved (gravel) roads.

I want to be a hot lady who goes for long bike rides with friends and stops for treats my only problem is I don’t like biking uh at all in fact I quite dislike biking but that’s all going to change because for the next month I’m going to do everything in my power to become the cyclist that I’ve always wanted to be so this is my bike cute ain’t it she’s about 7 years old and according to the internet she’s a city bike I’ve spent the last week taking her out for 30 minute bike rides every day and I got to say my lungs and my thighs tire out so fast which is terribly disheartening considering I thought I worked out pretty often I thought I was an active person and lastly my butt’s not as sore as expected so I i’ say that’s a pleasant surprise anyway I’m off to do some more biking see you so at this point I can’t tell if I don’t like biking because I have the wrong bike or if it’s because my body isn’t used to biking and it’s just me I’m I’m the [Music] please so the gap between me and a really cool biker person is really big and overwhelming and expensive right now it feels like there’s somehow everything but also nothing online about biking and it’s really starting to overwhelm me so instead of doing this internet perusing I’m going to head to some bike shops and ask some and ask some experts I’ll see you there one trip to the bike store later that was the most nervous cracking thing I’ve done in so long I’d really like to get into biking but I don’t know where to start can somebody yeah help me oh yeah of course I was planning on filming it but I absolutely couldn’t I’m sorry everyone I know I’m a YouTuber and I should film things but I was already nervous enough to try out bikes there was no way I was filming in there but I got some fun b-rolls so enjoy that and now I’m going to go to another bike store and put myself through this same level of embarrassment of having no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to bikes all right well hi I’m looking for a bike can somebody help me okay I’m home now and I tried out seven bikes at three different bike shops and I’m happy to report that I’m not the problem so I’m not the problem no basically at every store the first question that all of the very very helpful sales people ask me was what is s to like what do you what do you see yourself doing I want to be a hot lady who goes for long bike rides with friends and stops for treats and every time the recommendation was gravel bike gravel bike gravel bike so the bike is the problem not me and that’s because City bikes are not designed for the fast longdistance rides that I want to do mainly because with an upright seated position and a heavier frame it’s just not aerodynamic which explains why I tire out so fast when I try to keep up with all my road bike friends so now I know that if I want to get into biking I should get a gravel bike and it’s going to have to fit right otherwise I’m just going to set myself up for not liking biking all over again so with that it’s now time for part three so I’ve learned that a new beginner gravel bike is going to cost me at least $2,000 and that’s a lot of money so after a week of checking out Facebook Marketplace every morning I’m now on my way to test ride two gravel bikes that don’t cost $2,000 the super kind guys at all the bike shops told me that I should be looking for a bike within the 48 to 52 in range but that like clothes bike sizes are super arbitrary so you really have to go test it out for yourself hi oh you looking for the kiteboard or the bike the bike oh my God you guys have cool stuff s everything I’ll meet you around back there awesome thank you so to make sure I don’t get a lemon on Marketplace Chachi PT has instructed me to ask the owner why they’re getting rid of it how often it was used if there were any accidents and the maintenance history it also told me to check for damages like cracks dents and rust check to see if the tire Treads and wheels are straight without wobbling make sure the brakes and gears work smoothly and make sure the chain and cassette don’t look super worn down so I just tested both bikes and I have something to show [Music] you everyone meet my new gravel bike she’s beautiful and I love her originally she was but the owner gave her to me for $ 900 now I actually have to ride her my goal from the beginning has been to go for a long ride with a friend and stop at a coffee shop and I’m happy to report that I found a friend which happens to be my mom on her ebike and I found a coffee shop which is a mere hour and a half both ways so to train for this 3-hour ride for the next 3 weeks I’m going to be following this beginner biker routine let’s ride day one is a 45-minute bike ride we’re doing it then day two is 45 minutes of waight day three is another 45 minute ride day four is a rest day thank God day five is another 45 minute full body weight [Music] workout and here’s a video to prove that I did it day six is an hour and 30 minute bike ride who am I and finally on day seven we have another rest day we did it o up hi it’s the week one recap and I can’t believe I did that I biked a total of 3 hours this week which is more than I’ve biked in the last 3 years probably so go me now I think it’s a good time to talk about how I’m feeling mentally and physically starting with mentally these long rides are great for the brain I’m sure because I don’t wear headphones when my bike for safety reasons and uh that’s a long time alone with my own thoughts gross I also feel really accomplished because I put bikes on a tire for the nope I put tires on a bike for the first time basically the guy who sold it to me took the wheels off so I could fit it in my car and when I got home obviously I had to put those back on and I know it’s really simple for a lot of people to do that but for me it wasn’t but I did it anyway and I’m really proud of myself for that and last lastly I’ve been riding on some pretty beautiful and empty carless bike paths so I’m feeling really good safety wise and speaking of safety now is probably a really good time to mention that for all of the videos that you see of me filming myself or of me going by on a bike I just want you to know that I’m always signaling and pulling over safely and or making sure that there’s a long stretch of bike path ahead of me and behind me and that nobody else is around cool and then when it comes to physically I’ve just been wearing bike shorts and leggings for all my rides because I don’t have any padded shorts or bibs and because of that my butt started to hurt pretty bad on the second ride my butt hurts quite a bit and then on the third ride the pain really went up a gear pun intended my legs and my butt oh my God I’m so I’m heavily considering buying some padded bike shorts but in a weird way I feel like I’m not a big enough biker person to like warrant them like I don’t deserve them or something um but yeah mostly that’s just me out here being concerned about what other people will think of me instead of doing what makes me comfortable so that’s a me problem for sure but other than that I’m just feeling so fast guys I passed people I never passed people and I got a microwave my first one ever and lastly I am so thirsty out there so at some point this week I need to get my butt to a bike shop to get a water bottle and a water bottle rack and uh yeah that’s it for week two I have an hourlong bike ride then weights then another hourlong bike ride then I’m resting lifting more weights and then I’ll be going for an hour and 45 minute bike ride ride let’s ride I’m just taking a little break cuz I saw my first ever bike on bike crash H and it shook me up a bit and I’m just catching my breath so that like I’m biking safely yeah basically this fancy biker woman who’s about my age had like all the Spandex and the gear and a really fast bike and they’re listening to music she just like T-boned a girl or a woman who was biking with her boyfriend without helmets and went like flying over her handlebars and um yeah not trying to be scary but like I think Gordon Ramsey just put out a video of his bike accident and he’s like honestly you’ve got to wear a helmet I second what he says there also I just want to reiterate what I said in the weekly recap in that I never film myself biking on like roads or when there’s people around it’s like texting and driving I I don’t want to be like on my phone and biking cuz you’re going so fast and like the worst thing ever could be to hurt somebody anyway I’m going to go back out biking now but very safely and yeah I slept in today so I could only do a 20-minute workout but I think I made it count yeah I did that was so hard not going to lie I don’t want to go biking at all today but we’re going to do it we’re going to do it all right yay I did it I feel so much better but I’m definitely tired okay we’re done okay so I did my stretches yesterday and I did my weights today and now I’m off to go shopping a jeez hi and we’re back to Russ Hayes for some shorts I mentioned earlier in the video that I didn’t think I was qualified or good enough for padded bike shorts but that mindset has flown out the window because the pain is so real you will not find me on a bike until I have those patent bike shorts thank you very much sweet relief also quick fun fact I bought a water bottle and a water bottle rack [Music] Tada now let’s bite I did not like biking today the first hour was enjoyable and then the last 45 minutes was all uphill both literally and figuratively on the bright side my butt’s not as sore and I wasn’t thirsty so that’s good but my legs were killing me the lungs were fine and my back is killing me I’m off to go stretch a lot right now and then I’m very very excited for tomorrow’s rest day because I will be stretching a lot then too also check this pretty cool huh oh my God biking so it’s day seven and I’m resting and I googled upper back pain and biking and the internet told me that it’s because of bad form and muscle fatigue so the solution is to build up stronger muscle Muses and for now it’s just to stretch and recover we can fix it I’m just in pain so now I guess I’ll see you tomorrow for the start of week three and the plan is to accomplish my goal of going to that Bakery that’s like an hour and a half out an hour and a half back in we’ll see how that goes bye [Music] how beautiful is this I woke up so grumpy and then I was grumpy for the first 30 minutes but I’m not grumpy anymore I like biking now everybody the stretch has helped I’ve stopped locking out my arms and I’ve learned to bike early in the morning and not when the sun is at its Zenith but let it be known that I still have to drag myself off the couch most days and I definitely should have bought padded shorts on day one pause the Montage I just got back from biking With a Friend for the first time ever and my heart is so full and we stopped for coffee and it was wonderful and my cheeks hurt from smiling so I’m so happy to have a fun outdoor activity to do with friends and uh yeah I feel good shall we ride to the bakery yes we shall ride I shouldn’t have waited so long long to go biking with friends because it turns out it’s the best part but if I’m being honest with you I didn’t want to ask anyone to bike with me before because I was too embarrassed but now looking back to where I started I really can’t believe how far I’ve come confidence-wise both on and off the bike so I think my message for you today is try that thing you always wanted to do it’ll be hard and often times overwhelming but you can just set the goal and break it down into baby steps and eventually you might bike 3 hours in one day crazy and now while we bike back now is a good time for you to check out another video YouTube seems to think you’ll like this one oh my God

  1. as someone who works at a bike shop, if someone walked in and said "i'd like to get into biking and i have no idea where to start" i would ALSO say "hell yah"

  2. My employer move office lately, and I spent about a month cycling to work instead of working from home. About 3-4 km, downhill there, uphill home.

Didn't think much of it until my bike needed repairs, when i picked it up I have a 10 km uphill headwind trip in front of me, last time (which was during Covid, working from home) it had been an ordeal.

This time, I enjoyred the 45 minute ride. Might not be fast, but it felt easy. Sure, newly service bike is great, but that was true the last time as well.

Something changed fundamentally in those 40 bike trips, now I just need to "keep it up" during vacation…

I also brought two water bottles because it had been very warm, turns out the weather was turning bad and the head wind was nicely cooling, apart from where I had to crouch into the head wind.

  3. As a beginner lady biker I can recommend few things I wish I knew sooner:
    – Invest in female specific bib shorts. Much better for long rides than shorts with elastic band. Love bib shorts where you can just pull them down for peeing and dont have to undress
    – Chamois cream
    – Clipless pedals – so much easier and forces you to have feet in correct position
    – Bike fitting – does wonders to make longs rides more comfortable. Most bicycle handle bars are too wide for female riders.
    – Chain waxing – yes, it's more work, but you will never have oil on your leg and if you need to change the wheel or trye your hands will stay clean

  4. I got my bike about a year ago/ I'm 71 now and in April I had three stents installed to open my clogged arteries. I'm at that age, diabetic, high BP, high cholesterol and now I'm in cardiac rehab three days a week and trying to get on the bike on the off days. I've had the bike in the shop twice for gear issues and now I'm learning about how to make adjustments myself as well as what gears work best for me (as a lot of videos stress). So, I've been at this on and off for about a year now and I find I'm enjoying it more and more. Hopefully, I'll get to a point where I have a more complete understanding of how to ride so that it's all second nature. And, I'm beginning to feel really good so, there's that!

  5. You're elation when you first started riding with other people made me cry happy tears. It's amazing how much cycling with other people can bring you so much joy!

  6. I really liked that first bike she found on the marketplace, suits her, look wise it has nice colours and general style.

  7. I learned a lot already, but confused about the ''chain and cassette'' like what do they mean? And why is it important, what is the functions for that it is important it is not so worn? Also how important is it?

  8. this video was soo fun and so helpful . I stated biking everyday to the work and I'm in love. I surch for friends to go around and drink some coffee or bear after gahah I loved your video

  9. I am 50 and picked up a cult devo 29er and forgot how fun riding was, the different adventures and the freedom and obstacles and the benefits and the community theres tooany positives in doing it. Then lets not talk about bike parties and bike night life!

  10. Why do cyclist put the right foot down next to chain ring, you don’t dismount that way, I’m sure. Why not just use left foot, I never use the chain ring side to dismount or to stop.

  11. In 1996 my wife and I bought cheap bikes for riding in the park. A year later we had very nice touring bikes and often rode 100 mile days. So, brace yourself 😊

  12. I would not be here today if it wasn't for my cycling helmet. Bad crash and the thing was fractured in three (3) places. As the back of my head hit the cement, I felt the loss of consciousness for just a few milliseconds – scary.
    Always wear a helmet . . . always!
